By the way, before people start commenting saying we’re down to “second choice” - the first choice is always about getting the best quality for value. It could be that Spence’s price range at the moment is around 20m and Paratici is saying - well for 25m we could get someone better. So this early in the window I dont think we have to worry either way.
I think this is really important to bear in mind. And also that the next option may appear more favourable to many. Spence was one that I wasn’t sure about to be honest, so if we go with non-HG RWB for a bit more dough, and then spend a little less, say on the “Tielemans” position then I’ll be happy.

Problem is, he was the best of the options available this summer imo.

Not perfect by any means and lots of developing to do but he has all the raw tools to explode under Conte.

There are quite a few underwhelming options I fear we may end up with instead, like Maehle.

At some point, you have to be willing to say “that’s our final offer…call us if you change your mind” and move on.

I would have thought a mutually beneficial deal would be for us to get Spence at £15 million AND allow Joe Rodon to have a season loan to Forest, waving the loan fee. This would get our man and Forest would get a solid international centre back.

Forest don’t own him. Boro does.

I'm no scout but I'd be surprised if Spence was the best RWB we could realistically get this summer.

I hope we get him, he seems to have amazing attributes. But there are surely others.

I’ve done a breakdown previously, there are no elite options available and there are no real standout options available either.

Spence is one of if not the best option when you weigh up potential, homegrown and raw attributes.

I know Livramento has an ACL, and wont be fit until after the world cup but players typically recover from these fully nowadays and at Spences 20m+ price it wouldn't cost much more for a far superior technician.
