Perhaps there wasn't a RWB that was possible this summer? The club wanted Spence but Conte wasn't too fussed? The club wanted future planning?

I do hope we sign another ASAP and sell both Doherty and Emerson. The left side is sorted right now
I'm sure Trix and other ITK's have stated on numerous occasions that Conte would rather stick with what he has got if the club could not get his choices in. He would rather wait and not get stuck with make weights that we cannot get rid of.

Benatacour and Kulu went straight into the team. He obv doesn’t fancy him to follow instruction. Seems strange esp as he has Romero covering behind that position

Maybe he just isn't picking up automations and showing improvement in training. Conte's system is finely tuned. Every player needs to know exactly what to do in situations or phases of play or the whole system falls down. If Djed isn't showing he can be trusted YET to fit into the system then Conte is well within his rights not to pick him.

Just because he's had a couple of good cup matches against prem sides last season doesn't mean he's able to do it every day against prem players in training. Although there is obviously belief that he can reach that level consistently or Conte wouldn't have approved the signing.

if that's the case then he should have been loaned out. a year sat on the bench watching the shite ahead of him isn't going to help him develop.

Numerous reports stated that he didn't want to sign for a team who were planning to send out on loan. He wanted to challenge for first team football.

We couldn't loan him to another PL club last window.
As I believe you can't buy a player and then send him on loan to another team in your league in the same window.

Remember when everyone thought Spence was going to displace Emerson and be the starting RWB option immediately?

Go re-read this thread, lol.

Perisic will play RWB, with Sess on the left. We all know it.
Not sure about that.

Perisic got roasted on the right against Leicester, forced to switch sides then subbed. Given how that experiment went, I think Doherty will be first choice on the right in Royal's absence now he's fit again.

Feel sorry for Djed- because I almost know for certain that Conte is to stubborn to try him.
Specially after the comments when we signed him.
Think this is the type of player we need now. A player not afraid to take on his man.
No chance Conte swallows his pride and play him IMO.

if I were to guess, I’d say Doherty will start next game. Assuming Lucas is still out, Spence might get a start with the games coming thick and fast from now on. Up to him to take his chance

I dont understand this "not a conte buy" thing. Emerson and Doherty aren't Conte buys either. Would you rather play an awful RB at your most crucial position who proves his incompetence week in week out without failure or give chance to a youth prospect with all the right attributes ?

Hope so.

Many don't rate Emerson, that's fine, but maybe Conte isn't playing Spence because he's not at the required level.

I stand by my sentiments in the summer, he was nowhere near ready to be receiving all the hype and expectation of him being first choice.

His positional awareness both in and out of possession were questionable at best, his final ball was more a hit and hope, frequently missing his target, mostly due to the fact he never got his head up.

Yes, great pace, but certainly needed to work on numerous aspects of his game.

As for " well he couldn't be much worse than Emerson"...he could, and maybe Conte sees it this way, so opts not to choose him until he improves.
He can’t be worse than Emerson, whenever I’ve seen him he’s impressed me

Need to give him a chance. Is good defensively and has pace to burn. Think his passing and decision making going forward needs improvement but he needs games.

i don't get why we sign players that allegedly need months to buy in to our system. it's bloody weird.

he's a RWB ffs, he knows better than Emerson that role.

the same with the weird Bissouma situation. it's so frustrating.
Also when Conte took over he managed to pick 11 players and none of them knew his system…..
I’m not sure how long it takes to learn a system? It’s football not rocket science.

particularly when Spence has been playing RWB.

anyway, probably just amplified my annoyamce and confusion at this situation by being put theough watching Emerson at RWB. I can't believe there wasn't an attainable better RWB out there in the summer given how we always hear how important that position is for Conte.

He can. Conte knows that Emerson can be trusted to carry his defensive duties out. As proven by him being a starter in a team that finished last season strongly and we’re unbeaten in the league up until yesterday.

He obviously doesn’t think Spence can be trusted in the same way yet. And he will know more than any yet as he sees in training every day.

Your basing your judgement on Spence from championship performances and a couple of on e off cups matches against prem opposition. Yes, he’s proven he has potential to perform at the required level - that’s why we signed him - but it’s Conte’s call whether he is at the level yet.

sad and depressing thing is I’d be willing to be lots of money Spence doesn’t start a single between now and the World Cup break. Emerson will start every Champions League game between now and when his suspension ends and Doherty will start Brighton Everton and United. Only hope for Spence is that Doherty is horrific in the Brighton game or gets an injury/ suspension himself.

After which either Perisic will start at RWB instead or Lucas recovers from injury and plays there. Seriously I see no way Spence playing at all.

surely the best way to learn a system is to play in it in a real game and not against other players (in training) that are fully versed in "the system"
I get the sense this is just Conte imposing his will, and while i am sure he thinks this is to get the best out of Spence, at the moment our RWB is to our detriment, and it's making it look like Conte has a problem with JS and Doherty (especially when you consider that before his injury Moura was the Royal replacement of choice...

The team is crying out for pace, agility and purpose. What we have seen from Spence whether for Forest or in his brief cameo for us, he has these attributes in abundance.
