My impression from being stood behind Romero for the first half today is that the players don’t really trust Emerson with the ball. Seemed to be better second half but that may have been necessity as much as anything?
100% this. I spotted it myself that Romero really didn’t want to give him the ball as he knew it would be squandered.

I don't wanna do a big tasteless pile on, but I've lost faith in Royal ever being the player we need at RWB. Infact whenever he gets the ball I cringe, and that's never good.

Where's Tanganga?

Royal is simply not a wing back, he has no input going forward and this then has an impact on the team as a whole, in particular Kulu. The exact same can be said for Reguilon the opposite side, slightly more effective going forward, but tends to lose the ball too much. Both were poor today, in that they had no impact going forward, which is essential for a Conte team.

Given that he’s our only option now at RWB I’d have thought the fans would have got behind him. I really feel for Emerson as he’s clearly not used to (or good at) the attacking side of things.

Can imagine he’s in a poor place seeing all the negativity being said about him. Best for all parties if he goes in the summer.

I’m loathed to target individual players, but he’s a huge problem for us attacking when he plays. He’s either not got the skill, or the confidence to attack. When he gets the ball on the halfway line he freezes, and almost always passes back to Romero, essentially killing any attack before it is birthed.

Could well be a confidence thing, but either way he’s a problem.

Doherty and Sessegnon are the better pairing simply because they are positive front foot attacking players. Royal and Regulion look like they are only suitable to a back four. Both need to go in the summer.

For me the main difference is sess and Doherty have final 3rd composure. They don't shit the bed
