How is it pathetic. He is being selected to play. So how is it his fault he is playing. Therefore booing him is unacceptable. But I have also come to expect people making remarks without fully understanding the post and in the previous posts where ive said I dont know how people can boo - its a silly sound. Oh well!
Well if you don't know what's wrong with this there's really nothing else to be said
I agree about the booing though

Back in the day, even if a player was at best, average, if they worked their nuts off and put in a shift, they'd get appreciated for that, at least. Tottenham have been plagued by average to poor players for decades. Emerson Royal is by far not the worst of them and works hard.

Atmosphere at the stadium is fucking shite atm. The collective groans and moans about Emerson, every time he touches the ball, are awful. I understand he's limited, but the cheering when he went off and the lack of support for a player clearly trying his best is a disgrace. Probably doesn't help his game every time he receives the ball, people are already heckling in their droves before he's even done anything with it.

It has always been a tough crowd at Spurs. Remember way back (when we were really s**t) Samways getting the treatment despite not doing the obvious thing and hiding. More recently, Rose was getting similar (and commented on it in an interview iirc). One of the reasons I cba with going to games anymore. Doing more and more non-league, which has fewer moaning c**ts in attendance. Not just pro-rata either.

This all day long.

My ignore list gets longer by the day. I've even started putting those that repeatedly disagree with those condemning the booing on the list. I come on here to talk and debate with fellow Spurs "supporters" and if you think it's ok to boo a player giving his all, you clearly don't know what the word "support" means.
Jeez thanks @Trix !! Hope I don’t make that list!!

One last thing I don't understand about the visceral dislike for Royal - every time I see him, he has a smile on his face, he is happy, getting on with all of his teammates, not a bad influence in the dressing room. I never hear of off-the-pitch issues He is exactly the kind of player supporters should be proud to have representing the team.

Its fair to say "We need to upgrade RWB" - its not fair to take it out on Royal.

You never played pro football
No I didn't and I would have been stealing a living if I had.

I don't agree with booing players but the guy is crap. I'm not knocking his effort, just his ability and footballing brain. Am I seeing a different player to everyone else here? He is where an attack goes to die 95% of the time down our right side. 1 good pass out of 100 isn't a ratio we should be happy with. He needs to be sold and a player bought in who can actually play in that position which ios vital to this system. The fans are clearly sick of seeing him in the starting line up and the match thread mirrors that.

I've been critical of this team, this manager and this player on SC and that's fine.

But booing players, jeering at mistakes and cheering when they go off?

Sod off...you don't deserve your ticket

Emerson isn't an N'Dombele type who is taking the piss. He is not deserving of being the out and out scapegoat for a variety of problems with this team

Metalhead

But that's a debate for another thread.....

My brother was there yesterday and said that it was pretty toxic. It's not on IMO. There's a line between frustration and hatred. I think that people need to consider the potential impact that they are having on his mental well-being.

Thing is Emerson falls down on the final ball……. But he gets in the positions , not sure Doherty ever gets there. He does not deserve the bullying it’s not going to make him better

This kind of hyperbole is just fucking ridiculous. He is a perfectly competent right back, consistently being asked to play in a position he doesn't have the right skillset for, in the most competitive league in Europe, while constantly being abused by a moronic section of his own fanbase.

Fair enough if you think he isn't a good fit as a wing back. But criticising his overall footballing brain and ability just demonstrates how limited your own understanding of football is. It also shows what an unsupportive fan you are.

More hyperbole. Posts like this are just not worth reading.

He didn’t work hard for their first goal. He just let the player run off him.

It does surprise me that one of the excuses that gets made for him is that he was bought for a back 4, even though nuno had only ever really played a back 5 at wolves so I’m not 100% convinced it’s a valid excuse.

If nuno had seen the season out I’m pretty sure he’d have eventually reverted to a back 5, we were all pretty surprised he never tried it in his short time.

Not that it’s on royal, just something to think about.

If he was playing in the current in fashion system of a back four with the full backs staying sort of central and letting the wingers provide the width he would be good , maybe great.

A good player being played out of position

On the Athletic pod they were talking about the Brazil national side and how Danillo is so valued because he does exactly that and takes on instruction well.
