This. And in his last full season create some of our best goals with through balls against Man City and Chelsea

Don't understand why fans slate him for the injury. I think he is an asset when fit. Surely he is better than Sissoko tbh.

Wasn't he also out for a very long time in his first season with a back injury that seemed to take them a very long time to diagnose?

Wasn't the point I was making, but certainly interesting to read.

My point is that there's little point in speculating on what could have happened. For all we know, Lamela could have been brilliant but cause a negative effect on other players, leading to squad disharmony. It's wrong to assume that him being fit would have automatically led to better results as there are simply too many variables.

I do want to see him playing again though.

I know what you meant, and I somehow agree. No one can know what would've happened
But since I read that about the red cards, I felt the need to give facts about that so we stop repeating it

Hip injuries are very complicated and also if you add to that a drug problem it's hard to see him coming back

Would you just fuck off with all the drug stuff. There isn't a single credible report about this so why do you insist on harping on about it whenever you get a chance? It's quite obviously bullshit so just let it go.

I wouldn't be surprised if his back problems and the hip injury were connected. If the hips don't function correctly, other parts of the body compensates which can lead to overloading. It could have been an early sign of dysfunctions elsewhere.

I think it stemmed from the fact a lot of fans thought we were getting a Bale clone when we signed him but he turned out to be a very different player. Albeit a player with great qualities still. However theses fans still can't get over the fact he isn't a bale clone and therefore insist on downplaying what he does bring to the team at every opportunity.

if he can get back to first team training in October then we should hopefully see him feature before the year is out.

This. Although conversely I think there are people that go the other way and overrate his impact because they really want to believe in all of the initial hype. Nevertheless on his day he has the ability to influence and change the course of a match and I don't think anyone can deny that our squad will be much stronger with a fit Lamela.

This story is one of the reasons I love Lamela ... taken from an interview with Danny Rose after 2/3s of the 2015/16 season:

Erik Lamela was “disgusted” after Danny Rose asked him whether he thought Tottenham could finish in the top four.

With just 11 games remaining in an unpredictable title race, Tottenham sit second, two points behind leaders Leicester, after a battling victory over Swansea on Sunday.

Rose scored the winner in that game, meaning Spurs have won six consecutive league games.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s game against West Ham on Wednesday, Rose has revealed Lamela’s reaction when asked whether he thought the club could finish in the Champions League qualification places.

“Before the Manchester City game I was having dinner with Erik Lamela and I was still asking him if he reckoned we can finish top four,” said Rose. “I’ve never seen someone look at me with such disgust. He said ‘My friend, we can win the league’.

That's why I find it hard to comprehend the ITK that says his issue may be psychological as he has always seemed a really strong person.

However hard he works there's no denying he's never really had a consistent period where you could really say he was success.Without question has shone in moments but it's never really been maintained. And his goal return has been disappointing considering he was 1 in3 at Roma.Saying that Eriksen has only really gone to the next level in last 6 months or so.But Hopefully he can come back stronger and prove many wrong.

This is absolute bollocks. He has nothing to prove. Do you realise that in the 15/16 season he was so integral in us getting 3rd place that he had the most MOTM performances as voted by us fans, than any other of our players throughout that season?

[EDIT] Just saw @Spurrific reply to your post which is bang on point!

A few pictures on Tottenham's getty images page of Lamela training today. Great news!

Although I don't think he's with the squad, it's nice to see him with a ball again!

His guile, skill, eye for a pass (and ability to execute it), energy in the press, passion that clearly seeped out of every por whilt playing against L'Arse... I for one cannot wait for him to be back in the 1st team squad. A very much underrated player!
I completely agree with this. However, we all know he has games when his offensive output is ineffective. But unlike Sonny, or Sissoko, he can counterbalance days like that with the defensive, pressing shifts he puts in.
This is why I was so bummed last year when he succumbed to his injury. To me, I felt he was starting to emerge as our most important player not called Harry.
So, I have my fingers crossed that he can return to his previous form, but at the same time, I accept that it may take a long time, or might not happen at all.

Can't wait for him to be fit .... so we can sell one of the most expensive flops in our history and hopefully we can expunge his existence from all of our conscious beings

This is so important, and speaks to why certain players in Poch's mind are critical to the team. Because for every player with that unshakable self-belief, we have a Danny Rose, replete with self-doubt. That's why Poch loves Lamela, Dier, Lloris, Wanyama, Harry... cos I think they represent a different side to our team, that believes completely that they have what it takes to beat anyone and win the league. And that, is half the battle, right? So much at this level is psychological. I swear that's why Fergie was so successful at UTD for so many years. He flooded his players psyche with his winning mentality. It showed up in how they comported themselves against all comers.
Hence another reason I can't wait for this dude to come back.
