So when they say 'advanced stage of rehabilitation' does that mean hes been training fully with squad and nearly match fit or what?

Although it may be harder for him to get in the side, I think the 3-4-3 will really suit him. Never liked him being too wide on the right. All his best work comes in the pocket behind the striker.

Last info was that he had only recently begun outdoor training and wasn't with the squad yet, so I'd suspect he's moving towards doing ball work now, then will rejoin the squad later.

Still pencilling him in for an early November return, personally. A League Cup or early round FA Cup appearance from the bench to start with.

He will be a massive addition to our squad. This team is perfect for him. Aggressive, quick passing and movement. So often he would end up struggling in possession because nobody moved or wanted the ball quickly enough.

People are saying that he won't get into the team etc, he will. Lamela is quality. He has attributes that nobody else in our squad possesses. He works hard, always, every match. He creates something, in every game. He presses and is aggressive naturally. He moves the ball quickly and uses it well.

It is easy to forget just how important he was to the team that finished 3rd 2 seasons ago!

Really can't wait to see him back.

Didn't he play his best football for Roma in behind the striker?

Since he joined I've wanted him played as the 10 and not out wide. In this system he could really flourish. Would have to be rotated with Eriksen though.

I just hope he does actually come back soon. He's not in full training by the sounds of things so there's still a way to go yet.

There were shots of him on sky sports news mid week, doing quite intense ball work outside.no idea what they are called ,but he was hurdling little jumps with the ball.As statement suggests looks very close. I would think on bench after next inter break.

I actually think the role behind the striker in our 3-4-2-1 formation is his best role. Think him and Eriksen will rotate that number 10 role with Alli and son rotating the shadow striker role

I've set my expectations to absolute zero when it comes to Lamela's return to the team. I should stress that that's not because I have anything against Lamela / think he's a bad player / am joining the unfounded-dodgy-rumours clan, but purely because when a player has been out for as long as he has, oftentimes the player never returns to their former heights and they become a kind of shadow of what they used to be.

Now obviously that's not always the case - plenty of players have spent prolongued periods injured before returning as good as ever (van Nistelrooy would be the first example that springs to my mind) - but equally it's not uncommon for such a lengthy injury to permanently reduce a player's game enough so that they don't look like the same player they were before the injury.

Therefore, as and when Lamela returns to fitness, I won't be expecting anything at all of him, but if (fingers crossed!) he can still play an effective part of our squad then that's an absolute bonus that we'll all be delighted with. Hope for the best, but keep expecations in check for the worst.

He played as an inside forward on the right in a 4-3-3 at Roma.

Don't forget lamella himself had a similar lengthy injury before and came back a better player if anything

I hope that he's fully (100%) fit before he comes back as I don't want to see him breakdown and suffer
a setback on his return if his not fully fit.

Fod park the bus teams against us imagine a line up of

Lloris
Aurier Toby. Jan. Davies
Dembele eriksen
Son. Lamela. Alli
Kane

We don't need 3 centre backs against teams like Swansea yesterday. Give eriksen the floating free roll in the middle to come and get on to the ball from deep like he enjoys doing and let him be our deep lying playmaker.
Son creating havoc running at the defence, lamela threading balls through to the runners and Kane and Dele on the right where he seems to default to where he plays on the park at the moment.

We need him and Rose back ASAP... but the club are really letting us down with the injury updates.... like Wanyama now too - just how long could he be out with a knee injury (like Rose got)

Read the injury updates on all 3 of them in team news Friday, and then read last week update, and the one before the international break - they all say the same thing.

Rose is still in line to return to training in a few weeks - well it said that 3 weeks ago and still nothing.

Barca today announced Dembele injury and how long he will be out for, why cant we do this, we must have a shocking medical team!
