The fact that he got offered a contract extension during Pochetino's reign is proof enough that he rated him highly. As for Mason, who cares what some kid with virtually no experience thinks about anything? I certainly don't, that's why I didn't mentioned him.
Or did he sign a new deal as Poch wasn't given the resources to add new players, so it was cheaper to extend his contract? As a certain Moussa Sissoko also signed a new deal during that period.

Whilst his stats may not prove his worth, his passion is sufficient for me to want him to.stay.
I appreciate they have diff positions though would rather get rid of someone like Ndombele than Erik!

Poch never picked him for either the League Cup Final and chose Townsend to start over him and he didn't get a min in the Cl final. So did Poch really rate him as highly as you think?

Mason then didn't play him in the League Cup final so their must be a reason the same player doesn't get to start the big one off matches?
speaking of Mason, another kid with loads of passion as a player but ended up at Hull.

You sneaky one... So now your blaming Kane's poor finishing ability for Lamela not getting more assists!?

haha... but no. I wasn't just talking about chances created in which we failed to score, I was also talking about scenarios like the "assist before the assist" (like our goal at Nou Camp which gave us the qualification over Inter to the knock out stages of the CL, in which we ended up making it to the final. Just imagine that without Lamela's output, we wouldn't have had our most exciting football season in decades), or like helping to steal possession away in moments when our rivals are compromised (like Ndombele's goal at Old Trafford earlier this season).

Maybe football fans don't wank themselves over this kind of golden moments like they do with goals and assist stats, but they help a lot to win football matches.

Or did he sign a new deal as Poch wasn't given the resources to add new players, so it was cheaper to extend his contract? As a certain Moussa Sissoko also signed a new deal during that period.

While I think it's a fair argument you make about the reason for his extension, I wouldn't use the Sissoko example as evidence for that, since Sissoko got his extension following a season in which he arguably was one of our very best players.

Anyway, if Lamela is as ineffective and mediocre as you guys keep claiming, then Pochetino wouldn't have even seen him as a cheaper alternative. He would have been out of the door after the first two or three seasons under Pochetino (and before he got that year long injury), since we got rid of a lot of players during those years. There's really no other logic conclusion than Pochetino seeing a lot of value in keeping Lamela, all evidence points to that.

I don't think he was ineffective. In his second and third season he was decent and was a valuable member of the team. Since then he has missed something like 42% of all premier League matches which is a ridiculous total.

Has Son improved since coming to the club...Yes.

Has Kane improved since coming into the team..Yes

Has Lamela improved since coming into the team as a 21 year old...No. He was actually better when he was younger.

He along with a couple of others are the epitome of the period we currently find ourselves in and these types of players should have been moved on before now.

Lamela to Roma is surely too good a fit for anyone to turn down. He still loves it there, they still love him there and we get a couple of million in the coffers to put towards the painful rebuild.

Lamela really has been one to divide opinion amongst us. However I don’t think he has epitomised the failures of more recent years. He’s always shown an intense hunger and proudness to wear the shirt. For that I’ll always be a big fan of his. Several other players have not shared such positivity for the team especially when not selected. They’re far more responsible for our recent failures.

Lamela is likeable because of the passion and courage he shows on the pitch; willingness to press and carry the ball forward.

However if we are being cold and objective, he is probably not good enough as a starter for a top-6 side. Insufficient end product, inconsistent and doesn't always pick a good pass. Can't seem to last 90 mins either. He is also too similar to Lucas and strategically speaking you only need one of the two in a starting role.

I'm happy to keep him but if he finds a better chance elsewhere then I'm happy to see him go too.

Lamela is likely playing his last matches as a Spurs player, but you're being so unfair towards him that it's making me feel a bit sick tbh. Yeah, he has been missing a lot of games due to injuries in the second part of his period at Spurs, but that's not the same as saying he has regressed or even stalled. In fact, after each injury he comes back hungrier than ever, which is the reason why he always managed to find his way back into the team, and just because he isn't scoring a lot of goals doesn't mean he isn't affecting our game in very positive ways and helping us win football matches (which is the point I was making in my previous post).

Must be the time for him to depart to sunnier climes.
Decent enough player but never quite got over the line and by all accounts his last season in Italy was a reet bobby dazzler.

I really think people underestimated the positive influence Mourinho has on some players. Lost the dressing room is probably lost on those divas like Winks and Dele.

Anyway, I think he's gone from the look of his IG story.. ?

Perfect squad player. With 10 of him on the field we'd win every game (even though it would be hilarious on the ball at times).

I am totally biased. I want him to retire here. I want a testimonial where he elbows berbatov in the head, stands on Lewis holtbys hand and gets into a staring match with Edgar davids.

And just when the team relax in training they see he's back as an assistant coach and spent his week long retirement watching Full Metal Jacket on loop.

If the rest of this squad shared the same passion and desire as Lamela we wouldn’t be where we are at the moment that’s for sure.

We’d have done much better this season if they all played with the attitude and heart of Coco (probably top the disciplinary charts too! ?).
