What a pointless statement. In comparing Janssen and Llorente past achievements matter. Janssen flopped it in the prem. Llorente is proven in the prem. So saying that Janssen is a better player than Llorente is totally wrong.
I'm judging it on performances for us which is most important.

Janssen was hopeless in front of goal but at least he would put himself about and win fouls and headers, showing a modicum of hold up play. He lacked quality but Llorente has shown absolutely no quality and no inclination to work hard for the team either.

It's more that Llorente has been so bad rather than that Janssen is any good.

To me he seems a player that needs minutes to be at his optimum (who'd have thought) we saw a decent player at Bilbao, Juve and Swansea.

But we are not the team to give him those minutes, we need someone that can come in every now and then and make an impact.

The thing is ATM his performances aren't going to demand more minutes meaning his efficacy drops and Poch's faith in him likewise.

On the plus side he doesn't look like his running through treacle in a wind tunnel (against) like Janssen...

(he looks like he's jogging through treacle... :p)

You need to consider that Llorente has not had any preseason so he's still building up match fitness. Besides, though, past achievements matter because it demonstrates the level a player is capable of. Llorente has proven he is capable of performing at the very highest level. Janssen has never proven that and may never reach that level.

Yes Llorente might not have performed for us yet but there are mitigating circumstances - lack of playing time, no preseason, new surroundings, team not adjusting to his playing style etc.. but to doubt his actual ability is pretty idiotic.

Some of his first touch and lay offs are real class. Is that enough? If we are in real need of a goal from the bench or Kane is out for 3 games, does he fill me with confidence, currently sadly not. Still one of the elusive positions we need to fill for a complete squad.

Thought his most silky play was his headed layoff to Son who then sent it wide. Before the goals. That type of deadened control, falling back in mid flight is brilliant and only bodes well for the future. Took his goal with aplomb. He has started out with some bright spots, but if he were to get going after yesterday's performance, than I have hope. Son and him seem to have a nice combination of play which surfaced in the Real game i believe too.

Scored a nice goal and set up Son nicely but then kinda left a bad taste in the mouth by missing a relatively easy chance later.

Delighted for him. Superbly taken goal and some sumptuous link up play. Seems to have a natural understanding with Son which is great news. Missed one when his standing foot slipped but overall he looked like he enjoyed himself.

Still have faith in Llorente, his career has shown enough. The look of relief on his face when he scored was great to see.

I had no hope for him last week.

I do now.

I may have no hope for him again next week. Or maybe i will.

Commentators seemed to think the pitch was at fault there.

Anyone able to tell me what the point of signing him was? Shit performance away at a relegation threatened team, on a pitch that is being used as an excuse for our shit play.

We have a different option on the bench that may be a threat considering how weak in the air they are, and how deep they are sitting.

But instead when chasing the game we'll stick on a defensive midfielder...

What was the point? Interestingly enough, Giroud scored a late goal for arsenal at Southampton when they realised it might work to just get crosses in the box. Poch, come on mate. If you're not gonna bother playing him then sell him and bring someone in who you'll play.

Really thought he'd be decent for us, but nah, he's been below average at best. Fuck knows who we'll try to sign next.

Lazy right from the start today. 2nd half was better.

Janssen over him all day. At least Janssen will not get bullied by defenders and can draw us some fouls. Llorente done the opposite; bullied by defenders and gave us fouls.
