Apologies for going slightly off topic, but I don't think a whole new thread would be appropriate, but I have a question about Portuguese names.
I've noticed a number of Portuguese players / football professionals that seem to have a different last name than the one they use. So Mourinho's full name is José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix, Gedson's last name seems to be Carvalho. Is that a common thing with Portuguese people? Also is there a connection with Brazil (via colonialist history) whereby many of their players choose a different name than their legal name? Any Portugal experts out there who can cast light on this?
Again, sorry for going off-topic.
Thanks, dude! Appreciated.I was intrigued too so started reading this. Haven’t finished yet but it’s interesting so thought I’d share.

Aye, I can’t see what real benefit there is in keeping him. He’s behind Højbjerg, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Sissoko, Winks and probably Dele for three positions, has no chance of getting a sniff at AM and has Aurier, Doherty and Tanganga ahead of him at right back. If we’re in a position in any competition where we need to use a fourth (rb) or seventh (cm) or eighth (am) choice player then I’d far prefer see minutes go to the likes of White and Clarke.Rumours of us considering ending his loan spell early in january.
Makes a whole lot of sense.
He wasnt given a fair crack imo
