It’s hard to know what’s been said behind the scenes in regards to his role. I’m surprised tho that he hasn’t featured at all in ether games tbh. It’s a tricky situation because if he moved we would be completely reliant on Maddison and if he got injured or was out of form then we would be fxcked.

Truth is Gio is too good a player to be a back up and I’m also sure he wouldn’t be happy with just being a back up to Maddison. Which again relates to the dialogue between Gio and Ange. I’m sure if he stays he would get game time but on the flip side I’d say there’s zero chance he starts any time soon.

Personally I want him to stay but I also want him to play. My concern is that if we did sell him it would be an incredibly hard position to replace. We can’t go through the season with just Maddison as our sole creative player.
100% my thoughts mate

For me there is a simple solution: sell Lo Celso, and buy a younger, homegrown player. Someone like Alex Scott would've fit that profile nicely but that ship has sailed.

I dunno, it just doesn't sit well with me to have a quality player like Lo Celso relegated to the bench when he's probably more desperate than ever to play. Sometimes the club just has to do the right thing.

Unless we get a top offer or he puts in a transfer request we should keep him. Losing Sarr and Biss midseason for AFCON could leave us light.

He doesn't play either of their positions though. If anything we should be reinforcing our DM/no.8 stocks.

Lo Celso brings value to us as a final third attacking midfielder who both scores and creates goals. If we're not going to sub him on while chasing a win against Brentford, then... well, if I were him, I'd ask for the move to Sociedad.

Interesting, instead of enjoying the fact the team is doing well, you'd rather fixate something that might not even be an issue for GLC. You have no idea what conversations Ange has had with Gio and you don't know if he's maybe nursing a slight injury and Ange is hesitant to throw him in at the moment.

You're in your mind creating scenarios and trying to assume that because GLC hasn't featured yet, he's itching to leave. He COULD still be sold but what sense is there in worrying when Ange has come out and said that he likes and appreciates GLC. We have a full season of games to go, which to me means that GLC will get opportunities if he works hard in training. Either way, I'm not worried because Ange will make the best decision for the team

I agree we should reinforce but he CAN play there if shit hits the fan. We've not been linked to any of those reinforcements so keeping GLC is not a terrible idea.

I get the concept and I can certainly see the appeal of it in theory but the reality is not so simple. I’m a big fan of Scott, he looks a really talented player, but he’s not really a 10. If anything Devine is the more advanced player but let’s be real, we aren’t going to play Devine in that pivotal a role for any prolonged period of time if Maddison were to get injured.

Beyond Scott and Devine I’m not really sure what HG players fitting that role there would be. Further more this nicely highlights how crazy a move it would have been to spend 75 mil on Eze who whilst being able to play on the wing is certainly not a winger. He’s a 10.

Personally I’m hoping that this is more Ange being a little cautious and in time we will actually see Gio and Maddison to start in midfield. After all I’ve seen City and Liverpool play similarly aggressive midfield 3’s and both those teams have similar ethos to us now.

@SG7 You'll be alright, champ. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings bud  I'm sure the situation with GLC will end on a happy note.

Also people saying sell him to Spain. As if teams there have the funds? Not interested in selling LoCelso on the cheap.

I wonder if I could find posts on this forum from 9 years ago saying the same thing about Harry Kane if Soldado or Adebayor got injured...

We’d be mad to let him go. Deserves a start against Fulham in the cup though.

Agreed. Still has a lot to offer and he'll opportunities to play. The Fulham game will be a great chance to see him get 90 minutes and who knows, maybe he'll get called up for Argentina during the break.

I'm begging to see a GLC-Bissouma-Maddo midfield

Me too. I wish Ange give it a try during pre-season. I think GLC's defensive output is underrated and we could use all 3 when teams sit back deep against us.

If he's good enough to be a nailed on started for a champions leauge team they can pony up a reasonable free, otherwise he can be a rotation player for us and try and get in the team by playing well. Only two games played, people need to relax a bit

I mean Devine has hardly featured in pre season, is back playing in the u21 and is very likely to go on loan. Huge difference really as Kane already had two loans before breaking through for us. Devine has played how many professional games? Like 3 or 4. I find the kid very exciting and I really hope he fulfils his promise but he looks very far away from even being a back up for us.

Probably a precaution but this is why we can't let gio leave

Hmmm hope it's not serious. Well, possible chance for GLC to start next week if Maddison isn't fully fit by then. Funny how having multiple players for positions can come in handy

It goes without saying he should only be sold if a proper offer comes in, and not another loan deal.

Yeah, only two games played, but the way I read it: if we're happy to sub on a Hojbjerg looking to leave over Lo Celso, that tells me the coach definitely doesn't see him in a deeper midfield role.

Maddison is going to play every game and will rarely be subbed off. We're not in Europe, we have little fixture congestion. It doesn't make sense for a player like Lo Celso, who's in his prime, to play a backup role when he's clearly good enough to be a starter for a good side.

i read it as Hojbjerg for all his limitations is more likely to break up play, stick a tackle and push people about a bit than LoCelso (not his game) and we were protecting a lead
