What a performance. if there is one thing to take out of this game is that we have a keeper that is worth building around. He does have the odd Kyle Walker daft pass in our third about him but how many goals would an average keeper let in tonight. MOTM for Spurs.

One thing that impresses me aside from the saves is his communication at set pieces. I'm sure it's why we defend them so well. He's very clear about where everyone should be and at times will physically move a player into position.

We are genuinely so lucky that after all the wonderful years and saves by Lloris we now get Vic to watch.
He's having to pull out prime Lloris saves every week at the moment. Obviously what Hugo gave us for so long was epic, but this bloke looks different gravy. At least as good a shot stopper, but with more range on him, and just exudes a self belief and confidence that I don't think Hugo ever had in himself or gave to the back line. Early days, but...hoo boy. Hope that we tie him down as we did Udogie, as if he keeps this up he's destined for the very top in a couple of seasons.

reposting from the Sess thread
I'm intrigued by the Vicario - Sess discussion at the end. if it was over the corner, I have to side with Sess on this one. he carries the first runner to the first post as he is the closest defender to that side. if it turns out that the corner is directed towards that first attacker and he doesn't contest it, we would be all over him. if anything, this seems like a structural problem in which we have 6 elements zoning the 6 yard box and concede a free header in the first post area due to how soft we play. then there is Scarlett, caught ball watching, vacating his duty on the second post once he sees the ball directed into the first. inexperience, lack of concentration but could have been costly. also not sure he should be the one playing that role in a defensive set piece. much rather have him contest him in the air other than having him on what is a discipline role on the backside of the play.

Nice read from David Hytner on Vic including Vic's comments on the incident with Sessegnon.. Love his spirit and mentality...

Comments specific to the Sess incident:

“Maybe it was not the best thing to do,” Vicario admits. “If you have to say something, the right way is to do it in the dressing room. It was just about the structure we had in the set pieces, we were not set well. I was angry because it was the last ball and they had a good chance. I can’t put the blame on Sess, of course. It’s just to keep your attention high. So it’s about mentality and just not wanting to concede.”

Reminds me of when Lloris had a go at Son for not tracking back
Yeah absolutely. I was a keeper, trust me outfield players genuinely don't understand how many times they piss us off in a single match lol. Especially the keepers that actually communicate and try to organize the defense

For the last corner, it looks like Sessegnon gets scared of the run of #34 which creates the space and free header for the keeper. We have been really good at defending corners this season (Jedinak's work) and I guess that Sess was meant to cover the area rather than the runner.

If you are going to give a teammate a bollocking, the best time to do it is when 1) nothing came out of it and 2) when you win the game. Ryan is going to have to learn fast.

Can’t blame him for being a bit rusty tbf. Hopefully he’s more focused going forward.

I’ve noticed he gets targeted at corners in most matches recently. Last night was blatant throughout, constantly getting pushed off balance as corners taken.

why is no one standing between Vic and the Man City player. It seemed strange to me. Is it because we just mark in zones at set pieces?

I've had zero complaints or criticisms of Vicario since we signed him. But I have one issue that annoys me which relates to all modern keepers and not just him. Claim the ball instead of punching it.
