Putting Lloris straight back in, pretty much sums up everything that is wrong at Spurs.

Forster deserved to keep his place but as soon as Lloris is fit, he walks straight back in. This is despite not having a particularly good season.

First team players are rewarded for mediocrity, safe in the knowledge that they will play regardless of how they perform.

Squad players also know that they will be given limited game time unless there is an injury and even then they will be straight out the team as soon as the the other play is fit.

Skipp and Sarr were superb against Milan, but Hojbjerg came straight back in.

Son has been out of form all season but seems to be undroppable.

There isn't even any chance of a formation change so squad players won't even get a chance that way.

Cup games bring wholesale changes so even when players do get a chance it is hard to make the most of it as our squad is full of deadwood such as Sanchez and Moura who should have been shipped out years ago.

Richarlison, Bissouma, Danjuma, Spence, Sarr, Devine and even Tanganga should have all been given more opportunities to put pressure on the underperforming first teamers but have been criminally underused.

Based on last night, there seems to be no chance of a refresh, short term lift or new manager bounce so I fully expect to see a passive 343 until the end of the season with too many players lacking the technical ability to play positive, progressive football.

Easily the most depressing season for a long time, despite being 4th.

Great post.

Agree on all counts...except Tanganga. He's had enough chances and just isn't good enough.

Very frustrating that Conte/Stellini have even seen first-hand how effective Son has been off the bench against tired legs, yet the insist on starting him every bloody game despite him being terrible week after week.

Between that and the Lloris/Forster situation just proves they're ignoring the evidence in front of their eyes and blindly hoping the players find form despite months of proof it isn't going to happen.

Oh look, supporters in blindingly obvious call getting it right yet again but management getting it so wrong yet again. Groundhog Day. Bored of it. Cheesed off to the back teeth with the whole club.
I can’t believe he came straight back in, be interesting to see who is between the sticks now as the management have royally cocked this up.
Forster was doing a good job so should have played last night, club captain or not no player has a right to a starting slot coming back from injury, you’ve got to earn it and I’m sorry but Forster has earned the no1 jersey In HL’s absence.

Lucky boy yesterday.
He was, but I wouldn't class that as a glaring mistake, more under the heading 'could have done better' that was a huge deflection. He made a few more than decent saves as well.

I think we all know he's likely to be replaced for next season though although having said that it really wouldn't surprise me if the club were to delay that, give him another year and focus more on improving other areas of the team.

An improvement by the way, which in my onions, would lead to an upturn in more than one players fortunes at the club.

I think it's just the uncertainty that he creates as well. Not a glaring mistake for the goal either but how he somehow is fully in the goal himself by the time to ball hits the net just shows he's failing with the basics at the moment.

Love what Hugo has done for the club over this decade but I have to agree he is a problem now. He was never that imposing as a presence or a outspoken leader but became our captain and captain of France based on his ability to set an example through his own play. Which is fine. I don't believe Kane is much of a leader in the sense that he will inspire people around him either. You can't force people to become something not in their nature. But his ability to be a consistent 7/10 has waned for the last three years because his agility and speed to get across the goal line and pull off reaction saves is diminishing. It happened to Iker Casillas and why he was dropped by Mourinho. Keepers of that style tend to fall of a cliff suddenly.

I don’t think we should upgrade him just for the sake of it….the goalkeeper now is one of the most import positions in dictating the style of play. If that means Lloris gets another season with us then I’d much rather Forster get the no1 shirt an Lloris become backup…..doubt it will happen though

A new GK is imperative. You’ve already stated the importance of “dictating a style”, which I whole heartedly agree with.

Lloris powers have been on the wain for the last few seasons. Upgrade needed.

Raya sounds like a good option, albeit he’ll be in high demand and won’t come cheap.

While I liked what Forster brought with his calm distribution, I don’t think he makes either of the saves Lloris made today down low at full stretch. Next Keeper needs to be quality shot stopper, good with ball at feet and a real vocal leader, how hard is that to write down for our DOF.

This is my concern with this…agree with Raya but as you say he will be in high demand as will others of similar ability. If we can get one of them, great, if we can’t I don’t want us getting someone just for the sake of it….chances are we’ll end up worse off…..

Does a good GK make a defence, or does a good defence make a GK?

If it’s the latter, it really doesn’t matter who we have standing in the sticks. Prime Jennings would struggle with Dier, Lenglet, Davies and Sanchez.

A good GK organizes a defense.

And, in today’s game, a good GK is effective with the ball at his feet. Lloris is a decent shot-stopper, but he is panic stricken with the ball at his feet.

You would think that he is most likely to transfer within Spain or England.

Most clubs around our level have their goalkeeper situation sorted including De Gea, Alisson, Ederson, Pope, Ramsdale, Mendy/Kepa, Courtois, Ter Stegen.

I think we are clear favourites to get him and with one year left on his contract their is a deal to be done IMO.

There's no guarantee that who we want will be available next summer either. We need a keeper this summer. It's absolutely essential. We can't afford to waste another season.

Interesting positioning - Dunk heads the ball and Lloris has hit the back of the net before the ball even has. We can't afford to not replace him in the summer.

Hugo has been one of the best goalies in football for many years. He been so good for us.
But the last year we have seen him do more and more mistakes.
Dont know if its age or other things.
But after this season we must look for another no 1.
Love Hugo but its time....
