Found this article while look at some Fantasy league stuff. Talks about Conte and his wingbacks. Quite interesting as it goes into minutes shared etc.

Kind of fits into some of the Spence chat in his thread too.

Perisic actually only completed four 90 min games under Conte in the league, and played a 1000 minutes less in the league under him compared to last season.

Conte always made at least 1 sub (and often both) for a WB with 5 subs available, and therefore I think we will have 5 WB’s to share the minutes this season.

I've been wondering whether the intention is to keep a full set of 6 wingbacks. The exclusion of Reguillon from the touring party seems to rule that out, but if Reguillon doesn't move, we may well be happy enough with that position.

you'd be worried if he didn't think it was a good signing.
Exactly. As opposed to; “He is an average player, with feet that can kick balls. He is a winner, having won his last trophy from a checkers tournament he played when he was 9 years old. He is frail and old and unfit and overpaid. And let’s face it; he ain’t easy on the eyes. Delighted to have him in the squad”.

I’m intrigued to see where conte plays him . Left wing back seems a obvious position as he had played there a fair bit over last couple of years .

he could play RWB left wing, right wing or even in a diamond midfield. Think conte will use his versatility a fair bit this season

I think he is primarily LWB. He is 33 - I don't think Conte intends to run him into the ground by playing him every game.

The player who is more likely to showcase his versatility is Richarlison. I was pleasantly surprised to see Conte keep him in at the Right Forward spot in the 2nd half.

Perisic could also play in the left forward slot if needed. I doubt he'll start there but great to have an option.

When I saw a Spurs Left Wing Back take his man on and put a good cross in, I couldn't believe my eyes.

This guy is very very good

Does he look up to speed in fitness?
I think he wasn’t at full match fitness for sure but he still looked athletic and he showed a couple of times how well he can separate from his defender to get a dangerous ball in. Think we’ll see more lung busting stuff as he gets sharper.

Yeah he looked great. Patrolled up and down the flank, took his man on, defended well, linked play well. Also has the presence of a player that’s played at an elite level for years. Demanded more of the players around him and raised their level. Just an all round quality operator.

Him and Bissoma should definitely start against Southampton. Richarlison I know is suspended . Spence lenglet and Forster I imagine will be on the bench .

although after watching royal play today maybe Spence will get a start depending on fitness
