And Laporte. I think that’s unreal business if we do
It would. Not seeing much about Laporte though. Seems a bit like another one of them where is fans keep mentioning him out of hope more than likeliness at the minute

Spurs now LEAD the race for James Maddison as the playmaker prefers a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the club will be forced to wait on his teammate Harvey Barnes while Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg could be shown the exit

  • Leicester's James Maddison is keen to join Tottenham instead of rival clubs
  • Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg could leave Spurs and is attracting interest from abroad

Tottenham are now leading the race to sign Leicester City playmaker James Maddison - with the England international preferring a move to Ange Postecoglou's men over their rivals.

Confidential reported Spurs' were keen to sign the 26-year-old in April and they would like to add his Leicester teammate Harvey Barnes too, recently submitted a double £50million bid for the pair of them.

Barnes, though, also has interest from Arsenal and West Ham, and could be waiting until later in the window for his future to be resolved while Leicester determine his price.

Maddison has plenty of interest in him this summer, with Newcastle also considering a move for him after an impressive season at the King Power Stadium saw him score ten times and lay on nine assists in the Premier League - though his efforts could not prevent the Foxes from being relegated.

And the chat around England's camp over the past week is that Maddison is keen to join Spurs ahead of other suitors.

Mail Sport reported on June 8 that Spurs had made the signing of Maddison a priority for this summer, though Newcastle can offer Champions League football.

Maddison has only a year left on his contract, meaning Leicester must sell him this summer to recover a sizeable fee. The 26-year-old is currently with the England squad preparing for Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia on Monday.

Maddison linking with Bentacour would be sublime…2 intelligent players along the spine of the team interchanging.

Man have I missed Bents… the oil in the engine. Wrong thread..sorry…but can’t help it.

Should start to see movement with this now following Englands matches. Looking positive 👍🏼

Raya and Maddison would be a very strong start to the window 🤞🏼
Proper statement signings, Absolutely love Maddison, real ‘spurs’ type of player.

Agreed and I'd go a step further with Maddison linking with Bentancur and Kane as an amazing spine - could be the best 3 in the PL IMO, especially with Sonny out on the wing on one side and Deki (on form Deki) on the other.

Something like this would be an amazing first 11 for next season:

- Raya -
- Porro - Romero - Laporte - Udogie
- Bentancur --- Bissouma -
- Maddison -
Deki ------- Kane -------- Son

I know most people really want him but personally I feel completely apathetic towards the prospect of signing him, he's never been a player I particularly wanted for us. But thats just me and like I said I know most on here really rate him so im sure most fans will be excited about getting him and of course I will back him the moment he signs.

I'm slightly more positive than that, though not hugely

I think he's an excellent player, but can drift in and out of games - we have too many players like that. And his injury record isn't great.

If we get him, great. If we miss out (which given Newcastle's interest, I think is fairly likely) I don't think it's the end of the world.

He's made no less than 30 PL appearances in every one of the last 5 seasons since he became a PL player. Last season (21/22) he made 53 appearances in all competitions. I'm not sure his injury record is something to be concerned with. His stats are up there with the best in the league, despite playing for Leicester.

I'm really not sure what there is to complain about with him. Obviously every player we sign is a risk, but for a 26 year old (just hitting his peak years), Prem proven, CL experienced, home grown player in a role we've been in desperate need of filling for a while, with the stats he has, I really can't see any potential downside.

Fair comments. Like I say, I'm net positive on bringing him in. His output is excellent.

I'm just more in the camp of: if we don't get him, and there are various reasons we wouldn't, I think there are likely credible alternatives we could look at

More than his overall ability and what he can bring to Spurs, i think most fans want us to sign him because it is a fairly big 'statement' signing and it'll also happen at the expense of a team who we are afraid has leapfrogged us. Signing Maddison will make us feel better about Spurs.

If Newcastle are still pushing surely they’re getting encouragement from Maddison’s side?
