Agree but there is a case to be argues that Wimmer is slightly the better defender
Indeed. He was a brilliant purchase, and at age 23 and a few months he is another player we could have for years. In fact, another advantage is he keeps the average team age down compared to grandad Verts (age 29 in April)!

I think he is wildly underrated by media and fans.

In his first season for us he was twice the player we have seen since, even this season. I think how good he was then made people get carried away. That said we are a much better side for having him around and now he is one of the older pros in the squad he is important to us both on and off the pitch.

What a guy.

Cannot believe the amount of stick this guy got for not smiling. Some experts even claimed his attitude 'stinks'.

All we've ever seen or heard of Jan is that he is a leader on and off the pitch.

Were blessed to have a squad full of potential leaders/captains. He is certainly one of those.

Praying he signs a new contract soon.
Its alright we got a new person to hate, now, Bentaleb, his attitude stinks, he has no passion:rolleyes:

He would walk into most of the top teams in Europe he is that good. We are fortunate to have him and I'll be delighted if he signs a new contract with us (which I think he will). Wimmer has been great, but he isnt as good as Verts.

I think Wimmer will up Jan's game - it will have too or he might find it difficult to break back into the team if we're out all the cups!

Wouldn't mind seeing him have a crack a DM mind you if Dier needs a bit more resr. He certainly has the ability to carry the ball and reads the game well.

Kicking a ball in training now. Won't be long until be is available.

Given Wimmer is playing well, Bentaleb is out of favour, and Dier is one card from suspension, should we consider Verts for a short term CDM role? I know it's not perfect but he has played there before.

Seems a fairly obvious one to me . The only snag is likely to be the player himself who wouldn't be happyto play CDM . Its rumoured he didn't go to Arse cos Wenger wanted him for midfield .Hates Left Back too ..its CB or nowt for Jan..

Shame as he is simply great on the ball and would be a tremendous asset there imo.

I can't agree with this...we're either not blessed because that potential is yet to be realised, or because in fact we're lacking potential leaders. As far as I can tell, no-one assumes this role at the moment; it could be a critical flaw in the run-in.

Because Vertonghen is not on the pitch.

I was wondering if next season we may see some rotation between Toby, Jan, Wimmer and Dier playing the defensive midfield position that Dier has played this year. They all appear to be good on the ball and seem as if they could slot into that position.

I wonder if we might see him at left back at some point in the remainder of the season. At least he can cross a ball.
