The word in the press box yesterday was that Walker's relationship with Poch has broken down over him being dropped for the FA Cup semi-final.

Assuming it's not patched up there's only one outcome here. I wouldn't be happy to see him go to Manchester City and solve one of their problems. On the other hand...

* If we have to lose a player for whatever reason this summer I'd wave goodbye to Walker far sooner than to Dier or Rose, not to mention Alli or Kane;

* Do we need a player who kicks up a fuss over being dropped for a big game as opposed to sucking it up and moving on (and incidentally playing a bit less badly than Walker did at Palace)?

* Levy will unquestionably gouge City for a massive transfer fee;

* We'll presumably purchase a decent replacement (KWP is clearly years away yet);

* The balance will hopefully go towards purchasing a 'special' player.

Is this a fair summation or am I being overly optimistic?

I'd also add

* Walkers 26, whilst that isn't old he is completely reliant on his pace more so than any other player we have. To be fair to him he might be seeing this is his last big pay day thinking he won't be able to last at the top level compared to most.

I want Walker to stay but in all honesty i'd be much more angry if we were to sell Danny Rose.

Trippier looks good enough to take on the mantle for me, perhaps with KWP contesting him. The only thing I worry about though is that it might not be a popular decision in the dressing room.

I'd agree with all of that except the part in bold.

The reason I posted ":peeking:" earlier is he is the only current first teamer at this point who may move on this Summer. Everyone else is happy with how we are progressing and their role in the side. This one is worth keeping an:peeking:on.

Oh well it looks like there is something in it. That being the case, goodbye. I don't want any player here who isn't committed 100% to Poch.

If Walker wants to go he is an idiot. Just a a massive massive idiot considering how we are progressing as a club. If he does go I would be flabbergasted if Pochettino didn't give Walker-Peters the opportunity, as we all know how much he loves to bring through young players

You can kind of see his point though, Guardiola is the manager, plus his salary will almost double and City will be fighting for thing in no time

No I can't see his point at all. He is on a lot of money, has a real chance at winning things, is playing for a manager who has helped develop him and more importantly is consistently improving the whole team, he will get the chance to play at Wembley all next season and at the new lane the year after. Can't see his point at all, apart from money City offer nothing else

He's a Sheffield boy so a move to the bleak Northern wastelands might actually seem attractive. We can argue all we like about Poch versus Pep and £80k versus £200k a year, but we can't argue with Walker's mum.

This makes more sense than him demanding a move to City, even though the end result will probably be the same.

We're ahead of any other team in the EPL as far as development goes. City will be losing Toure, Silva, Kompany, Zabaleta soon enough. Wouldn't be surprised if Aguero jumped ship either. We have made significant improvements 4 years in a row now and have so much more on the horizon. Walker would, IMO, be nuts to want to leave. If the club want to sell him that's a different matter, but I can't see us selling to City and solving a problem for them.

Right, see ya then Kyle and well, hello Kyle (WP) - the boy should be given the chance imo and Trippier will improve his defending I reckon.

Just trying to read the tea leaves, so to speak, but it seems likely that Trippier went to Poch about playing time, and asked what he need to do to get more matches (if I recall, there were reports of Trippier leaving in January). If that is true, and Trippier put in the work in training, then Poch gives Trippier more matches, at the expense of Walker. That could very well have unsettled Walker.

Next season leads to Russia 2018, and players will want to get as many matches as possible to secure national team spots - and Walker may have been concerned about the effects of rotating on his spot in the England XI - which leads to him being unsettled, and wanting to go somewhere to be the unquestioned starter. Its probably flawed thinking, but I can understand where Walker may see an opportunity for a big pay raise, and more certainty in terms of playing time.

From Spurs perspective, I hate to see someone like Walker go - but if there is one position where we are blessed with depth, it is at RB, where Walker, Trippier, and even Dier can do a job right now, and KWP is probably not far away. If we can get a club to over-pay for a player in a position of strength, we can add strength in different positions, ultimately making the squad stronger.
