From El Nacional in Catalonia...

Bergvall has many doubts about Barça's project, final surprise

Lucas Bergvall moves away from Barça in the final hours of the market

Lucas Bergvall was considered a closed signing at Barcelona for this winter transfer window. Everything was agreed, and it seemed only a matter of time before he passed the relevant medical examination, to stamp his signature on the contract, and be presented with immediate effect, a few hours before the end of the winter market. But there has been a dramatic turn in events, after it became known that Xavi Hernandez will not remain the manager next campaign.

Apparently, the talented footballer born in 2006, who would start with the reserve team, was a personal bet of the Terrassa manager. He was convinced that he could be an important pillar in the near future, provided he passed the period of acclimatization to Spanish football. The serious injury of Pablo Paéz 'Gavi', the constant physical problems of Pedri González and the more than likely departure in the summer of pieces such as Oriol Romeu or Sergi Roberto made it very likely that he would have space in the first team.

But everything has come to a standstill after the Sweden international received the news that the former Al Sadd man will leave Camp Nou. Joan Laporta and Deco do not seem to have the same conviction with the still modest Djugarden player, despite the fact that there was already an agreement for a figure slightly less than 10 million euros for him to join the discipline. And this has made him leave Barcelona without signing anything.

Ange Postecoglou will meet with him in the next few hours, to try to get him to stay in London, and definitively rule out the idea of wearing Barça.
If that article is correct, he has 2 managers who want him to join their club, but one of those managers is not at that club next season.

Bit easier for a manager to convince a player to join him when he is still in the clubs plans going forward.

I’ve held this thought for a long time but I am not sure why these “wonder kids” go to Barca, Real, Bayern, Chelsea etc

There’s 2 or 3 every year that make these mega switches to these giants, and sure the lights are bright and it’s a glamour move to one of the biggest clubs in the world, but they never get a chance and the next you hear about them they’ve signed for a bottom-end mid table club in Spain and have to kick start their career after not playing for 4 years. I’m trying to think of any success stories in recent years and can only think of Alphonso Davies and Rodrygo, and those were both 5 years ago!!!!!!!!

I am not saying he should come here. It still may be too big of a step. Look at the track record of clubs like Brighton, Dortmund, Ajax, Lyon among others. Why are these kids not looking there? If you’re good, you’ll make it there and you’ll be at a Bayern/Barca in 2-3 years and cement a first team place upon signing your contract.

Maybe I’m too cynical and this kid is the Swedish Messi, but I’ve seen too many of these stories. Really hope he pivots away from them (and maybe even us if he isn’t ready) for the sake of his own career.
What's your definition of "wonder kids"? Were Camavinga, Tchouaméni, Vinicius not "wonder kids" when they went to Real? What about Bellingham?

If you won't do it for us, Daniel, do it for real Madrid and for the special relationship. Do it for modric and bilbo and all the hobbits.

Bellingham went to Dortmund.

Camavinga and Tchouameni had played two and four years in Ligue 1, respectively.

Brazil is a talent factory where the top clubs frequently try and get the biggest prospects in as early as possible.

Bergvall has started 11 games in the Swedish first division. The Swedish league is ranked 24th in Europe based on their teams performances in the European cups.

So what's your definition of a "wonder kid"? These guys were all 17/18/19 went straight into real first team. If these aren't wonder kids then who is? Jack Clarke lmao.

I don't care about the definition of wonder kid personally. You were the one that picked on a word where the message of the original post was clear.

The discussion was about whether young players should go straight to the biggest clubs or not. 3 out of the 4 examples you provided had showed they can stand out in a top 5 league whereas Bergvall has not played at anything close to that level.

It’s sorta crazy (as a fan of the club for 40+) years, to think about how much the football world has changed in the last ten years. The idea that there was a special prospect out there, that is sincerely deliberating between us and Barca is sorta surreal. Yes, our stature has grown. But it’s insane how much theirs has shrunk.

It just goes to show that we have a fantastic infrastructure set up with the training ground, stadium and the revenue streams that brings. It was always going to take time for that to bear fruits despite the fact that many initially mocked it as a game changer. It has taken Levy far too long to get there but I believe what we have now will lay the foundations for hopefully substainable success. Coupled with the fact we have rigidly stuck within in the FFP and PSR rules deserves commendation.
And we have Ange.

Yes, says last he heard was that Spurs aren't particularly confident. Was 4 hours ago tho
He didn't say that though. He said "they" and the question was about going to Barca. So I read it that Barca aren't confident, not Spurs. But Twitter has its own "language" so maybe you understand that better than me!

He's much more likely to be talking about Tottenham's confidence than Barca's...
