Fulham in negotiations for Lucas Ocampos, same position as Solomon, could indicate we’re now his preferred choice.
Ocampos has actually been playing more right wing then left wing the last two seasons. He's two footed and can play ether wing and has been used on both flanks pretty constantly over his career, ether way I wouldn't necessarily read their interest in him means they no longer want Soloman as they could very comfortably play in the same line up.

I really hope we make a move for him. I know the legal situation could put us off a bit, as we've had enough negative news on that front over the past season or two (lol)

Only logged 829 minutes last season at Fulham in 24 total appearances which is about 34 minutes per appearance. In those cameos, he's averaging .63 non-penalty goals per 90 (99th percentile) and 2.99 successful take-ons per 90 (94th percentile). Seems to work hard defensively as well.

The take-ons really stand out to me as it's been covered that Ange usually looks for wingers that can go either way and take on their defender. Think this would be a really nice under the radar signing.
I don't know what the legal ramifications of signing him are, i originally assumed there wouldn't be any but considering how he is still a free agent there must be something. I can understand why we are being cautious with this one.

His club threatened to sue anyone signing him.

It's not the club signing him that's the one liable for any legalities, it's FIFA, the body that is sanctioning them, isnt it?

I know that part but I don't know if they actually have any real grounds for doing it as surely the responsibility would lie with Fifa for changing the rules not us. From what i have read FIFA changed the regulations so that foreign players could suspend their contract in the event of war breaking out. Solomon still has 1 year left on his contract with Shakhtar and they have lodged an appeal to get the decision reversed. Although I think its unlikely the fact is if they did win their appeal whoever signs Solomon would be in a difficult situation. Ether way his contract is suspended not annulled so again im not sure what that means. To what degree is a he actually free.

This is what Palkin, Shakhtar's chief exc, said
"I would like to send a message to those clubs who are trying to sign our players without paying a transfer fee: Shakhtar will file claims for unjust enrichment against players or clubs who have enriched themselves and benefitted by obtaining a financial advantage. We believe these clubs who enrich themselves at Shakhtar's expense will be obliged to pay restitutions. Those clubs should understand what they do when they decide to sign our players."

Altogether I think its obviously a very delicate situation and I can see why any club looking at him are unsure as to what the ramifications could be as its only recently FIFA changed Annex 7 which is the part of the rules that pertains to players in this situation.

I guess what he's arguing is if a club took a soloman and sold them on quickly for profit.

I guess it's a massive grey area especially when he has a year left. Arguably you'd say no additional benefit if we didn't sell within the year

Depends if Shakhtar are still paying his wages (other than whilst he was on loan). If they are now not paying him, then he equally has grounds to have his contract cancelled.

Should just take the risk on a free. Fifa can sort it out themselves and pay compo as they’re the ones who gave the go ahead.
he would cook under ange imo. If he works out could be great son long term planning. He’s the exact kind of player we need

Definitely the kind of explosive and agile 1vs1 dribbler we lack.

We would just need him to sort out his creativity and passing/key passes. If he were to improve on that we could be looking at a star.

For a free transfer it could be a move which ends up being a masterstroke.

To be honest Shaktar have a point. Why shouldn't they get paid for their player? It's not their fault Russia invaded Ukraine. If we like him, he has a year left so stump up some cash for him. Am I missing something here?

I hate to be that guy but anyone feel kinda uncomfortable about mugging off a club in turmoil because their country has been invaded?
Who owns Shaktar? If it's a Russian then go ahead and screw them. Otherwise, let it go.

A Ukrainian owns the biggest team in Ukraine. Not surprising.
I would tend to agree, but until recently, one very big non-Russian club was owned by a Russian, and also the entire Donetsk oblast has been under Russian control since 2014, so I entertained the possibility.

That's business. Nothing personal, just business.

And 100% Shakhtar would do the same.
I fucking hate it when people use variations of the term “it’s just business” to justify moral bankruptcy tbh.
