Will delete if not allowed, but seems fairly pertinent with the news that’s come out.

Could be fastest player in our team when/if he joins. Certainly close to the top anyway.
Yes, but i'd rather have a player that reads play exceptionaly and rearly need to sprint or tackle, like prime Van Dijk, that is what gives other players on the field confidence.

That said i do not know anything about this player so not going to comment on ability though, he might be that good, but just saying :)

Based on the pure number of CBs we've been linked with I'd be surprised if we aren't looking for two.

We really need four CBs as options and realistically we currently have 1.

Is it too much to sign Tabsoba, Tosin and VDV? Tapsoba seems like the obvious first choice and Tosin can cover both sides. VDV could cover LCB and LB which might be just as important if we ship out Perisic, Reguilon and Sess. Udogie is a real talent but we’re definitely going to need cover there and think Davies might struggle with the high intensity under Ange.

Would rather have 3 signings in the back line than any other position right now.
Won't happen but if we signed those 3 and kept Kane I think we could make top4 and win a trophy.

All throughout this window it's been us looking at multiple CB's and even Romano now is still suggesting Tapsoba so I think we just need to have faith here in the powers that be.

If we don't successfully conclude a deal for Tapsoba it'll be disappointing granted as his skills set is precisely what we need but I won't believe it's not for the want of trying or that we haven't offered fair terms to Leverkusen as already have been cited.
At a guess if Tapsoba happens it will probably be later if we manage to shift some of our defensive deadwood for reasonable fees and Lenglet is there as a cheap back up option incase that doesn't happen.

Didnt realise both VDV and Tepsoba are 6'4''. Got a feeling it will be one or the other

We struggled to get Hincapie from Leverkusen in a previous window. I don't think they are the easiest club to buy from. Moving fast on Van Der Ven is smart when clubs like Liverpool are sniffing (Bayern too pre KMJ). Hopefully we can wrap him up and revisit Tapsoba later in the window if we've shipped enough players. It's been clear before he's a player we rate very highly.

Its mad that I would be disappointed if this meant no Tapsoba. VDV has the potential to be our Vertonghen regen but I feel like we desperately need a more experienced player as well. I pray we get both him and Tapsoba but I doubt it.

It will be VDV and Romero 1st choice . Lenglet and dier as back up . Sanchez and Tangaga to leave .

I can see Barca writing off a lenglet fee meaning we get him for nothing . Can’t see us spending 40m on another defender.

It would appear we have offered fair terms - can't recall which ITK who suggested that but nevertheless - and that if still unsatisfactory to Leverkusen then we will move on to other targets.

Can't afford either to be bogged down in protracted transfer sagas but must admit I hope the secondary target is of similar quality.

Yeah we obviously want a defender in this week. Can still see us getting another dependent on outgoings.

I'm buzzing for our Vertonghen regen :joyful:

He even looks like Super Jan with the black boots

Multiple CBs yes, but it's always been strongly implied it will be one or the other of Tapsoba or VDV as a 'big' CB signing, not both.

His top end athleticism means he’s got the higher ceiling between him and Tapsoba, but if we can only have one (hope it isn’t the case), Tapsoba is the one. I don’t see that much between them defensively, both a bit more passive in their approach and both great fits on paper next to Romero. It’s the ability on the ball that’s a huge difference. Reliable, elite ball progression long and short and extreme calm under pressure is something that Tapsoba possesses. VDV not yet. He’s a fine passer, but nothing more yet. He’s much more of a carrier, which is fine, but I feel that is diluted a bit in Ange’s aggressive system. Would be a better fit to have elite passing progression in that position in my eyes. But VDV is a natural left footer that provides better symmetry, has a higher ceiling, and (whether this should matter or not) is cheaper. As already mentioned, I don’t think, talking pure defensive ability, there is much difference between the two, which should be priority when choosing Romero’s partner. I do think this would be a great signing and another one that just makes a ton of sense, which is encouraging. But on the ball there is a sizable gap. VDV could easily close that gap, but he hasn’t yet. So that’s the difference for me.

Signing Lenglet after Van de Ven makes zero sense.

We don't need 2 left-footed centre-backs. Make much more sense to have 2 or 3 RCBs with one of them being comfortable on the left.

For example, Romero isn't comfortable there. But Tosin could be, or even Tapsoba.
