Anyone with eyes could see how much of a mess we were at the back last season. The priority and money should be getting piled on CB recruits. Especially after getting 3 other gaps in the squad filled for a combined £56m outlay (excluding sales).

There is no excuse at all for the club to go cheap on CBs, we need 2 top quality ones to come in. Not one plus Lenglet back, but 2 starter calibre CBs. I’m holding out hope we get VDV and Tapsoba both in, so I’m saving any anger or frustration until further into the window, and I’m choosing to take todays news as positive as I do really like VDV. Also, because I refuse to believe the club would be that stupid as to not bring in another after him.
THe other priority is using a system that plays to our player's strengths. Last year's calamitous defense was due to players and scheme.

we can afford it but I can't see us buying both. It will be one + a cheap option or loan.
I think it will be one in and then we will concentrate on outs. And once we know where we are with what’s coming in we will move again for a player or two. I just don’t see us dropping more than 80m on ins before we shift. TBF I didn’t see us spending 80M up to this point. Got a GK Winger and CM hopefully a CB soon I think that was the minimum amount of business we would do all summer to get it done early July is good going.

Worth noting Van de Ven can also play left back so I very much doubt he’d be our only centre back signing and we want to sell a couple of left backs aswell Sessegnon, Perisic etc….

We desperately need Tapsoba but I’m wondering is the other Adarabioyo as we need homegrown signings.

It’s still early in the window so no need to panic it’s just another piece of the puzzle.

Great bit of business if we can get it done as he's highly coveted as a player with big potential, already a good performer, and physically elite. If any deal for Tapsoba is going to drag on, bearing in mind we have no idea what the ask is from Leverkusen, I'd rather us get de Ven in early if the deal is there to be done rather than get drawn out by Leverkusen and have Liverpool sign Van de Ven, Leverkusen end up not selling because they're short handed, and we're left with nobody.

Hopefully we can free up some funds and squad space after we get him in, if it happens, to allow a punt for Tapsoba.

So you’re suggesting lessons have been learnt…..🤨

I’m a bit confused as to why folk think we wouldn’t go for both him and Tapsoba.

At CB we need two new players, to go along with Romero. The rest of them (Dier, Sánchez, Davies, Tanganga) are nowhere near good enough to play for Spurs and we have criminally neglected properly addressing this since Toby and Jan both left.

If it means £50m + £30m just on the CBs then so be it. It’s absolutely necessary.

Otherwise, we get an injury and what? We have Sánchez or Dier back in the team? Fuck that
This isn't football manager. Spending £80m+ on two CBs is non-trivial, especially when we've already spent north of £100m on Maddison, Porro, Kulusevski and Vicario.

People here need to have more faith in the manager. Whether it's Dier, Davies, Lenglet or maybe a cheaper option like Adarabioyo, it's not necessarily out of scope for one or more of these guys to deliver more than what fans might expect. Yes, we obviously need a new first choice centre-half, but it's hardly a disaster if we go into the coming season with Davies or Lenglet as a backup.

We've turned into such a miserable bunch of pessimists...

Think this lad looks great.
Indeed. I am multiplying the predominant negative vibes by the equally negative historic how-good-is-this-bloke prediction rates and getting a massive positive 😃

Welcome. You seem far too sensible and level headed for the transfer forums.

No idea just came out of the blue. A Poster mentioned him and said Ali Gold And Maybe Romano follow him, then he dropped Maddison call. Then there was a photo of him and Ange together. First summer hes got traction, plus he mentioned something else which I dont remember prob Vicario

I found him on Twitter just before Maddison signed. He called the raya deal off before anyone else and also called the Maddison medical first.

He’s gone from 1k followers to 8/9k since his info being spot on so far, Seems super reliable in this window. It’s Ali Gold & Paul O Keefe that were originally following, probably a few other names now.

A manger who likes to play on the front foot, needs all the defensive help he can get.

Agreed. Though if we’re gonna take it to teams then it takes the constant pressure off the defence. Genuinely excited to show people the weapons we have; they’ve been blunted for too long

Tbh based on the German journos Leverkusen really don't want to sell Tapsoba and had already earmarked other defenders to sell this window instead of him so they can raise money elsewhere.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if, despite the player wanting to come and us being willing to pay good money, they aren't going to sell unless we make a silly offer. And even then Leverkusen might risk pissing of Alonso by selling one of their key players and characters from under him against his will. Managers can lose a lot of trust in a project when that happens.

On the one hand, maybe we should just push the boat out and pay massive money for Tapsoba but then, if Leverkusen want, say 60m, is he twice as good as VDV? It's the Raya/Vicario argument all over again.

Jury's out but at least Ange seems fine with this approach. Fingers crossed it pays off!
