One hell of a thunderbastard, didn't realise he had that in his locker.

Has it been shown anywhere how hard / quick the shot was? Was chatting to someone at work and said I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the hardest hit goals of the season but haven't seen anything to see if it is or not

Hard to overstate how good he is isnt it? I mean, what's his ceiling? How good could he end up?

Makes everything look so easy.

He might actually be the most exciting centre back to watch. It's rare you get one who pretty much has you on the edge of the seat his speed and defending are so good. It's why defenders rarely win the big awards. He could actually win Ballon D'or one day, he's that exciting. What makes him special however is not just his recovery pace but his ability to then get a controlled tackle in. It's not a frantic chase for the ball where he may or may not come away with it. The rare time he lost out was against Antonio, other than that I don't recall him not coming away with it when he gets back. He then has the composure to play out with it so we get back in control. I honestly wouldn't swap him for any other centre back in world football.

Was anybody else in for van der Ven when we nabbed him? I don't follow European football closely, so I'll admit I didn't know him previously, but what's the Bayern chief scout's excuse?! Or United or Real for that matter.

Simply phenomenal. Aside from just good performances at the start, he has been immense and blends youthful athleticism, with a mature head who feels like he’s been here 5 years already.

A sign of a truly great player, he just makes everyone around him seem better

He was very much in demand and we were keen to get him in quickly. As Ange said at the time:
“Everybody wants him.
“Everybody wants him, mate
“I just want to make him mine, all mine.
“Na na na na na na na na na na-now.”

I think he’d start for any team in the world right now. He is the definition of a footballing cheat code. Guardiola would probably break City’s transfer record on him tomorrow if he could and centre his latest tactical rebuild around him.

Was on Liverpool's radar but midfield was their priority last summer so didnt make a move.
Radar perhaps but he was never going to Liverpool when Van Dijk is still there.

Having him in the Netherlands squad is enough as it is.
