I know he played LB a few times this season but I didn't see any of those games unfortunately. From what i've seen i'd say its a bit of a stretch as I don't think he has the technical ability on the ball (yet) to be what would essentially be a midfielder, as that is where inverted FB tend to sit when in possession. Not that he isn't comfortable on the ball or have passing ability, its just there is a jump between the roles when it comes to required ability on the ball, but as i said ive only seen a handful of games so I wouldn't dare say he cant for certain.
Yeah based off stats it seems that he wouldn’t be suited to it, but stats don’t tell you everything.

And then when I saw people comparing him to Vertonghen, I thought it would be more of a possibility as I think Vertonghen would have been able to play the position very successfully.

It's well documented the overhaul in the squad required and none more so than defensively.

Think people are massively jumping the gun suggesting Van de Ven is instead of Tapsoba considering the heavily publicised links for both and an obvious need for a multitude of defensive reinforcements.

I will say - if not Van De Ven then who would people prefer?

If Tapsoba is 60mil, I'm not sure who else the top CB prospects are that would be realistic for us.

The only one that maybe sticks out is Antonio Silva at Benfica but he'd probably be more expensive. Not many top CB prospects that aren't already at a top club that are 24 years and under.

Possibly the idea is to build the squad with young players with a great deal of potential. The new coaching team with its foundations in our own academy hopefuly creating a path for the academy players. Then when the squad has settled and the playing style has developed we can start to add the more expensive signings. Not sure we can do both at the same time and not end up with the same problems with our current squad.

Tapsoba has to be the one we push the boat out. Ready made good to go quality cb. You won’t get any other quality cb at that price of his quality.

Scalvini at Atalanta springs to mind.

If Paratici is still consulting our team then it would also be prudent to include Hincapie in our list.

Let's get creative.

Buy both and loan Leverkusen VdV for 6 months to tide them over until the winter window. He comes back as Tapsoba goes to AFCON.

The problems with VDV or Tapsoba for me is they are young and coming into a new league where they will be immediately expected to perform as a starting CB.

They both seem like real prospects but I really would like us to sign a more established proven CB plus a prospect.

My ideal would've been Laporte plus one of Guehi/Tosin/VDV/Tapsoba. Laporte seems to have gone quiet...Pau Torres? Gleison Bremer?

They all seem like expensive options but we need to spend as a function of us only having one CB of sufficient quality...years of neglect has led to this siutation.

I do feel spedning £40-£50m on players like Tapsob or VDV would be a huge gamble.

no more so than going into next season with the same old puddings at the back.

I'd expect him to cost a lot and he's right footed. Lukebe and Inacio would also be great left footed options but would also probably cost a lot and are still raw as well.
He certainly wouldn't be cheap but fantastic prospect - may even develop more into a 6.

Back on topic and I think MvdV looks a great fit for Ange's system and being quick, or certainly upgrading the speed of our defensive options, looks a key attribute.

But putting off buying quality means it will always cost more next season.

Buying Tapsoba and VDV means we don’t need to buy another top cb for years.

I'm guessing that rules out Tapsoba. Tosin and VDV wouldn't be too bad though, I'd take that tbh

I think we need another experienced one in there if that were the case (if we are getting rid of all of Dier, Sanchez, tanganga and Rodon).
