I'd argue Lenglet is better than Dier, and if there is interest in Dier you're more likely to sign Lenglet, potentially for free and sell Dier.
Yea of course if that specific scenario came up. However I can’t see us shifting Dier, Japhet, Sanchez and Rodon.

It'll be Van de Ven and Tosin.

With Leipzig wanting around £100m for Gvardiol, I can't see how Leverkusen ask for anything less than £60m for Tapsoba and we just won't spend that sort of money.
Yeah that's my read on it too. Think they'll hold out for 55-60m and we probably won't pay that much.

While Tapsoba seems to be the best 'right now' player of the lot, I do like the fact that VdV can cover at LB too. Could be a very useful option for us to cover there next season given his pace and strength if Udogie gets injured or needs time to bed in.

I would prefer Tapsoba given the choice but that versatility of VdV is good for the squad, at least, especially if we plan to sell Regi, Sess, etc.

Bloody shame. You know we look back every few years and pinpoint where we went wrong and didn’t quite strengthen enough to get over the line, well that is it. We need two top quality CB’s this window to really make that difference.

that's why we are going backwards and backwards...we never do enough to fix the key problems and compromise with second solutions

Undoubtedly Tapsoba is everyone's first choice here but if a deal can be struck and Ange decides on MvdV then whilst disappointed not to secure the best target available, I'll ultimately trust the choices made in the broader scheme.

I can subsequently get on board with Tosin but Lenglet will be harder to stomach/rationalise regardless of fee.

Are we? We signed Maddison for Winks so no change so far. Spence is back now so one up if anything. Most sales will be foreign aside from maybe Sess and Sanchez but we also don't need to replace them all due to the numbers we have.
I think there are question marks on the status of Spence, Sessegnon, Rodon, Tanganga, possibly one of Austin or Whiteman, and Harvey White. That leaves us with one of the young keepers, Forster, Skipp, Maddison, Davies and Kane, who will likely be off next year anyway (perhaps Forster, too). In terms of forward planning it's definitely something we need to keep in mind.

Surely even spurs aren't naive enough to think that a raw 22 year old CB being the main CB signing is acceptable? We need a proper starting calibre player there next to Romero, and then someone like VdV understudying them

This smacks of the whole you can't get a job without the experience but you can't get the experience without a job. Its literally the perfect time for a younger player to come in to the first team, whilst also being surrounded by a wealth of experience from club pros/internationals.

Agree, vdv has only played one season in the Bundesliga, seems a real gamble to expect him to be first choice.

Then perhaps you should complain about why we don't have mega-billionaire saudi owners instead. We are simply not in a position to splash infinite amounts of cash for one position on the team.

If Ange reckons he can coach VdV into a better player I'd be surprised if he didn't see at least something in Joe Rodon. I know this won't be a popular opinion, but Rodon is the type that just loves to defend. I thought he did pretty well when he played for us. Haven't really kept tabs on him during his French spell though.
