Clubs will sign players all through the window. The majority are in the back end of windows. All clubs do these tours and won’t have all their signings in place. Buying and selling players is more complicated than computer games. Not all stories and links are true no matter how reputable the source. It’s not always spurs or levy causing the problem. It’s summer time, there is more to worry about than cbs. Enjoy football, don’t let it ruin your day. It doesn’t really matter that much. Focus on the great moments and let the frustrations slip by. And give dier a break. The lad has tried for our club for a long time regardless if you feel he’s not good enough, he deserves some respect.

Let me caveat what I'm about to say by stating I think we need new, faster, ball playing CBs, BUT I don't think our defence right now is as terrible as last season suggests.

We played a style that invited pressure at all times. This lead to mistakes, a drop in confidence, and then the debacle we witnessed at the end of last season.

To me getting a new keeper (Lloris and Forster are both past it it imo), and a more progressive way to play were more important.
It's possibly true but honestly a high press and high line will expose our current defenders just as much imo.

I agree in some ways, but I just can't see Dier and Davies being suited to high line football at all. I mean just take Brentford first game of the season, you know what their strategy is gonna be.

Untested keeper, especially at sweeping, Ange high line, Dier at the back. Frank will be telling his players to keep placing accurate direct balls in behind and use the pace of Mbuemo and others to exploit us.

The ones you might be able to make a case for are Rodon, Japhet and Sanchez, but I don't think any of them are good enough.

Lol no they won't.... I've watched them when they tour' d SA .... light work outs and more showmanship and I've been to more than 1 session over 3 visits here. Its light work at the beginning of the season evidenced by the wholesale changes and cameo appearances.

All it is at this moment is team bonding meeting fans and sponsors and the games thrown in for good measure.
I'm guessing you think Kane was throwing up during the last pre-season tour because he had too much to drink the night before.

Edit: Just seen (and 'liked') your later comment comparing this summer's tour to the last one.

I think the key here is that Skipp has decided to cut his holiday to tour… however the players get 21 days from their last game as holiday as mandatory. So VDV still has two week of that by which point the team is home etc.
storm in a teacup imo

Netherlands went out on the 27th June, so he’s had 3 weeks off come this Tuesday.

The reason I'm not freaking out is that preseason is only a week in, the tour doesn't change that, but also because unlike last year when we went for unrealistic unattainable targets like Bastoni with a coach who wouldn't play an alternative if we'd bought one this year we've got options and a coach on board with them all, who perhaps even drew up the list.
I agree it's a shame we didn't get a CB in for the tour as that is a great way to get to know everyone quickly.
This is just bollocks. We heard we signed a second choice right back and tried for bastoni and at least 3 other cb's.

Yes Ange seems mega pragmatic but what you described is not what was happening.

Keep clapping hard, Mr Happy!

I’ll get the ump if we don’t sign good players, in good time, he puts the prices up unfairly, the goons show ambition, and when Dier has no idea where Bowen is on Tuesday. If it’s alright with you. That’s because it does matter to me. I can’t help it.

It's always the wisest move to leave addressing the most glaring weakness the squad has faced for years until all other business has been virtually concluded. Anyone who thinks this "suboptimal" is just being hysterical.

Why resort to more hyperbole?

It's wisest to do the deals when we can achieve them. Maddison had to be sold by Leicester early in the window. Should we have waited until we signed a CB?

If VDV is a primary candidate, then we couldn't move in June, due to the U21 euros.

No we didn't, unless you mean Gvardiol or Bremer equally unattainable.

Myself and many others have had decades of this at this point. It'll take many near faultless years of business (transfer wise at least, who knows how players will actually turn out) before any benefit of the doubt is given.

We need more than just one good CB so the later the first one arrives, the more some will fear the worst.

And on this issue - this specific position - it's been multiple windows, entire seasons have come and gone, without addressing it adequately. Patience is already thin.
