I bet we are trying one of those loan + option deal, probably with Bremer. And if that comes through, we wont go to these cash only deals

Yep, for one, I suspect he's looking at the wage bill with worried eyes.
Well if Ange is suddenly keen to keep, say, Lo Celso and we've budgeted to sell him or replace him with a homegrown option, it could change the way we look at our incomings.

Not saying it's that specifically but interesting timing that we seem to have stalled the transfer just after all of the international players got back.

I think its really important we drag this out for as long as possible - sure, he misses most of pre-season, the tour, has less time to get used to a new club, a new league, a new manager, a new way of playing and a new city, but maybe we can shave a few quid off the price, and the longer we wait, the more we save in wages……….and these are the important things, because its not as if we really need to strengthen in the CB area.

I think an obvious thing that's likely changed is Kane going has an effect on incomings

It’s never done until it’s done. I sometimes wonder whether it’s people’s first windows. They same thing happens every year. Just wait and see.

It was said midweek we were still in negotiations for VDV (and both defenders). Nobody knows what’s going on and the only certainty is that when they sign we will know about it. Until then, anything can happen.

We had a new head of football starting on July 1st mysteriously delayed last minute, then we have a cb done deal according to most itk at the same time as that was said suddenly the takeover talk started and then munn was delayed and silence on the cb. Seems like too much of a coincidence to me. No business is going to sign off on a 30mil expenditure if there is a serious possibility you’re being sold. You wait and let the next owners pay it or if it’s just investment maybe they are holding off to buy a better prospect with increased funds.

Hoping (perhaps optimistically/naively) that Trix and Hercules are frustrated more because they haven’t heard about any more movement on this, rather than they’ve heard something specific about how we’ve moved the goalposts.

If it’s just the former we could still get good news soon.

Seriously though if we don't sign a decent centre back (we ideally need two at least) we'll be pretty much in the same position as last season, even worse.

A lot of people on here need to take a chill pill. They are losing there shit on opinion and here say.

“IF” we don’t sign a decent centre back we’ll be pretty much in the same position as last season or worse?????

How would you quantify that?

we have a brand new manager who has taken over and promised to change the way we play and our mentality. That on its own is an upgrade on last season.

He wants to look at the current CB’s he has at his disposal, both senior and academy, which I think is 100% the right thing to do. Maybe he can see qualities are easy areas they can improve to become better. I don’t know, you don’t know, no-one apart from the person that matters knows.

It is less of a gamble to identify quality in the current squad and build on that than throwing baby out with the bathwater and bringing in 2 new players who have never played either in the PL or under Ange.

Do I think we need new CB’s, on the last couple of years performances of course.

But I also have to have trust in Ange and his methods.

But whatever way we 100% won’t be in the same position or worse than last season just because we haven’t signed a centre back.

Let’s see how things pan out before we all start self inflicting aneurysms………. please.

Well at least there seems to be one sane person on the forum this morning. The state of the ITK thread this morning !

On VdV , i did see one youtuber suggest that Wolfsburg had got wind of us selling Kane to Bayern (or at least them believing that is the case), so they in turn have upped the price for VdV as they think Spurs will have more funds available from the Kane sale.

That's not the most outlandish 2+2 i've ever seen tbh, albeit something i wouldn't choose to believe at this moment in time.

Spot on, and i would add that if you really look at our defensive problems at the end of last season, you will see that it stems from a lack of press (or any sort of organised , committed press) from the front players, which in turn leads to a midfielder mistiming a half hearted press, which leads to the opposition playing around us and launching an attack of 5,6 or 7 players running at our back line....who inevitably fail miserably to deal with it. Organise the front press, co ordinate the midfield press, and hey presto, even Dier and Sanchez have a better chance of defending repelling an attack. Note: which is definitely NOT me suggesting we keep those players in the first XI, just pointing out that laying the blame on the defence ''because they are all shit players'' is far too simplistic.

Agree with this, said last season the press starts from the front, and that has not been the case the last couple of years. It is quite hard to be a defender when you are constantly pushed back in the the 16 yard box. Atlleast with the type of defenders we have.
People tend not to see the big picture and just want new transfers for the sake of it. Now i DO want a new quality CB, but i am also in the camp that i do not think VDV is the answer just yet. He is way to raw in my opinion to slide directly in to a back 4 int the PL alongside Romero.

think if We buy Only VDV, then he will actually be backup to Dier and Romero. Every manager seem to like Dier for some reason as he is the leader type.
If we buy VDV and Tapsoba, then maybe Dier will get benched, but i will not be surprised one bit if Dier and Romero are the partnershipt in our first home game.

You lot need to chill. A few weeks ago you were losing your shit because apparently Levy wasn’t serious about signing Maddison, and wasn’t anywhere near agreeing a fee, and that got sorted.

The transfer window still has 6 weeks to run. Relax.

Yeah but... It's a chance to get a dig in at Levy, even if we don't know it's his fault! 😏

I understand the whole evaluation of what we've got as centre backs. But Sanchez apart, -who wants out anyway-who is blessed with the pace to play a high line? Maybe Romero???

Starting the new season with our current crop of centre backs and playing the high line system Ange favours would be tantamount to sporting suicide. We'd be setting the guy up to fail.
