It's not beyond the realms of possibility that deal(s) have been lined up but Ange is being given an opportunity to assess before pulling the trigger. If he's going to give Ndombele a chance, why not the others? It doesn't always have to be Levy playing silly buggers, even though that's how many like to view things. This might even be at Ange's request.

Do you realistically think that’s the case tho Japhet? That Ange has said, “Hold off on the well-publicised CB search that I sanctioned and you’ve taken to conclusion, Dan. I need more time to assess if Dier can play in a high line, flat back 4, or if Sanchez can suddenly learn the passing ability that’s required to play there”. Respectfully, do you genuinely think that’s what’s at play here mate?
And I can assure you it’s not how “many like to view things”; there’s nothing enjoyable about potentially missing out on a player that improves us in an area that’s in vital need of an overhaul. Like every genuine supporter of THFC we’d much rather have VDV (or any other credible upgrade on Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga, or Rodon) currently signed, integrated into the group, and learning a new system under Ange. Wouldn’t you? But then I’d like to think that most of us are far more interested in seeing the football team improve in an area that’s needed upgrading over multiple windows and 3 managers, than finding excuses for all the reasons that it hasn’t. That isn’t some irrational anti-Levy agenda; it’s just a pro-Tottenham one. For the record mate, do you personally think that Dier et al are a better fit for Ange’s system than VDV or Tapsoba?

I have no idea what conversations Ange has had with the players. I know that in previous jobs he's won them over very quickly and has also shipped out those he doesn't rate. I'm also pretty sure that he won't have binned players off without having a look at them at all or given them any chance. I would love us to get VDV &/or Tapsoba in, but I'm also aware that the recent previous managers have adopted tactics and systems that haven't flattered our defenders. Our recent transfer strategy has been to have deals lined up without necessarily pulling the trigger, and I'd be very surprised indeed if we didn't bring in at least one CB, but it's not a race. I have a feeling delays in VdV are linked to the possibility of getting Tapsoba, or maybe Laporte instead.

Yeah you’re right mate, I’m sure Ange doesn’t need me or anyone on SC to point out that Dier has neither the pace nor agility to play in a high line! But that still fails to address the questions: why were we making a very public pursuit of 2CBs if our manager hadn’t yet assessed if we needed them? (Hardly good for the man-management you speak about).
And why did we finally get to the point of agreeing a fee for VDV (as confirmed by 3 of our most trusted ITKs) if Ange hadn’t finished assessing the squad?
Isn’t the most likely answer for the delay or collapse of the deal, the one that’s been provided by our ITKs? I.e that Levy is trying/tried to restructure the deal; perhaps paying over a longer period of time? Or paying more upfront to reduce the overall fee?

He probably knows that Dier has been a very good player for Spurs that has had issues under the last few managers. He might want to have a look for himself and see if there is a place for him.

Players that are clearly not of sufficient quality of have far outstayed their welcome will be once again given a chance to prove themselves or most likely prove what everyone and his dog knows that they need to be moved on and we need upgrades. Once this is finally done we will have wasted another 6 months or longer and playing catch up to our rivals.

There have been lots of players over the years who have been good for Spurs, but the time comes when they drop away in form and then it’s time to go.

Totally agree with you Danny, and I feel that that changing of the defensive guard is long overdue. IMHO we desperately need new blood. In fact I didn’t think that was even up for debate!
