Is this the longest drought of itk (from a decent source) we've gone through? Very queit, i understand things are happening but usually there are snippets here and there from someone 🤣
I think it can be like that when the club is out on tour

The problem is, this applies to all our CB’s bar Romero
Yes, but that doesn't mean we should get another

I think this guy has good potential, but he's (initially) a squad player for me, who can cover LB and CB

I'd be delighted if we got him, but if we do, I don't expect him to start straight at CB away

Imo he should, because the options we have are that bad.

From what he's shown this summer, VDV is just as capable as Sanchez of head butting the grass. Some extreme abilities though.

having seen the very athletically gifted Sanchez fail at trying to be a competent defender due to a total abscence of composure i'm not sure a young prospect based on physical attributes who shows signs of a lack of composure is the way to go Tapsoba and Tosin is the best outcome for me.

I don't actually think Sanchez is that fast tbh. He's quick when he gets going but that Scamacca goal is a good example. His recovery pace isn't amazing even if he is much faster than Dier, Davies et al. Have a feeling van de Ven might have been able to stop him after making the initial mistake.

huge difference in VdV’s composure on the ball though vs Sanchez.

I do think he’s much more of a depth / future guy than a plug and play. I hope he’s not our #1 target for LCB.

Where do you get this figure? The fee for VdV is around £30m and Leverkusen want £40-45m for Tapsoba.

So signing 1 of VdV or Tapsoba would mean:

Vicario £16.3m
Maddison £40m
Solomon Free
VdV £30m/Tapsoba £45m
TOTAL £86.3m/£101.3m

And that’s before you take off Winks £10m, which brings the net spend down to £76.3m/£91.3m, way lower than what you said?

In fact with both of them the net spend would be £121.3m.

If we sold Sanchez and Tanganga for £10m each and Rodon for £5m that brings it down to £96.3m. Sell Hojbjerg for £30m and replace him with Gio and/or Tongee if they come good and that takes net spend down to £66.3m.

On your general question, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want the club to have a net spend of £100m considering our revenue and how much we are charged as fans.
I agree that a £100m net spend is a fairly reasonable expectation.

I can understand why further signings could be limited by outgoings though, once the wage budget and squad size are considered, in addition to net spend. On this basis, I think we need to move on all three of Sanchez, Tanganga & Rodon before it's viable to sign two more first-team CBs. The pragmatic approach would be to sign one of them now, in anticipation that we'll mange to offload at least one or two of them.

The differences in our calculations are due to us using valuations / fees from different sources, plus me forgetting about the £10m for Winks.

Multiple sources have reported Vicario as an initial £17.2m plus add-ons, so I've assumed £20m, and Maddison as an initial £40m plus add-ons, so I've assumed £45m (i.e. £65m combined).
Transfermarkt seems to arbitrarily either omit add-ons from its stated fees or include the maximum possible fee if all add-on clauses are met. What the general media reports seems to be tied in with their agenda at the time (e.g. when we were spending the "Bale money", the media widely claimed that we broke our transfer record twice for Soldado and then Lamela, yet we paid exactly the same [30m euros] for each, with 30m euros quoted for Soldado and £30m quoted for Lamela just because that sounded more sensational).

There have been plenty of reports that we'd need to pay £50m for Tapsoba, so that's the valuation I've used there, rather than your £45m.

For the 10 years leading up to the new stadium our net spend was generally around even. Since the new stadium we have seen a jump but it doesn't look like it's resulting in 100m net spends each season. It's been roughly around 70m for the first 3 seasons. Last season it was around 130m and this summer so far (including Porro and Kulu, yes I know) it's around the same level. But even that was likely only boosted by the one off cash injection we had last summer. It's impossible to know for sure without seeing the books as we rely on sites such as Transfermarkt which as you mentioned, aren't always reliable. I know we as fans want to see Porro and Kulu as being as part of last seasons 'pot' but everything we know about how the club is run this is unlikely to be the case. It's also why I think fans really need to re-evaluate their expectations if they are expecting us to sign both De Ven and Tapsoba this summer.

The following numbers are stated in the Financial Accounts for the period ending 30th June 2022 including the post balance sheet events post 30th June 2022.

Total Net Spend £108M over three transfer windows and we know ENIC put in £100M. Can any finance experts comment further.

You are looking at intangible assets on the balance sheet.......which is the exact reason that net transfer spend is a total misnomer!

I've talked about this loads before......I've had a few beers right now, so not going to write an essay on football accounting.......if you want to know more then search for "amortisation"
