Wow. That is a lot given his relative lack of experience. One year in a top flight league and not even a senior international yet.

Sutalo for 30 vs VdV for 50? I’m not sure I wouldn’t rather have the former.

nobody can say this is Daniel going for the “cheaper” option.

I’m worried it’s the right one. For 50M and with all of Europe to pull from we ought to be able to get a guy that goes into the starting 11 without even a thought.
But thats the problem clubs have a price and they have a price for English clubs

Whilst the premier league is swimming in money, clubs like Citeh and Chelsea have added a premium to all foreign transfers for premier league clubs.

~£35m isn't that much more than we initially thought he'd cost is it? He was always rumoured to be around 30-35m, right?

Seems like that's around what we'll pay up-front if Levy agrees to be less stingy with the structure.

Think people are getting a bit carried away cos the quotes are in euros and Fab quoted a 'potential' 50m figure, but we won't actually pay that if we're willing to be a bit more accommodating with the structure and add-ons.

It kinda is outrageous.

Romero was 43m and he had won defender of the year.

in todays market though it’s a fair price… even then… no
According to the tweet they only want £43m if we're not willing to work with them on the structure, though.

We're unlikely to pay £43m if we actually negotiate.

I'm more OK with it because it's a beginning of a new project.

He has the raw attributes. Is he going to be perfect on day 1 - probably not. But much like with Ange some of the younger players desperately need match time, consistency, and confidence to develop in the club and league.

I'm willing to give Ange and the players that, I hope the majority are too.

I’m guessing they’re not accepting the Domestic Treble clause for the extra 5m. Let’s drop the Cadbury Cup from the proposal and show we’re serious.

Seems to be a great talent but risky to spend that much on someone who only had one good season, that's how you end up with Nunez, Pepe, Janssen etc. Sometimes gamble pays off obviously and we know that Postecoglu rates him, we have to support the manager unless it's completely unreasonable.

Ah the PL premium. It's a risk for us because when we go to sell a player that didn't work out it works in reverse. We'll buy him for €45m but won't be able to sell for more than €15m. Doesn't matter to Man City, or Chelsea who either just take the hit or get their mates in Saudi to buy them for €60m.

We're in that sweet spot where we can just about afford to get the player, at a push (and are expected to), but cannot afford for it to be a mistake.

Spurs fans ‘ffs Levy just spend the money’

also spurs fans should spend that much on him’
I think most fans issue isn't with the money we've spent but how we've spent it and when we've spent it.

We have 5 left backs at the club, 3 right backs and too many average cb's. VDV might turn out to be an incredible signing but you have to agree about the risk.

If both are signed, sealed and are at Hotspur Way before Brentford away this turns into a decent window. The squad will look very good especially with no Euro midweek football. Next they need to off load the deadwood even if it means a few contracts are terminated.

If they are both signed our squad would be pretty crazy actually, probably the most complete squad we have ever had 30/40/50 mil players everywhere

I get that people are thinking it'd got more expensive than a few weeks ago, but if he's one of the top targets then it doesn't matter about the cost really.

Far too many times in the past we've dropped down the list and we are still stuck with these players for too many seasons that we can't shift. So for me if we have scouted him thoroughly and he's the one the manager wants, then we just need to get the deal done.
