Haha christ people are reacting so much to one tweet.

It's a negotiation - half these deals come down to the structure and the add-ons. It doesn't mean we're suddenly going to hand over £43m for him.

And as for him being a gamble, that's always been the case. He's a high-upside punt cos of his physical traits but he's not the finished article. If we don't want to risk it we either need to spend an additional 10-15m on Tapsoba as a 'ready to go' option or we go cheaper for someone with even less experience at the top level like Sutalo who doesn't have VdV's freakish pace. Or Tosin?

Or he'll look at his options and think "well this kid can't be any worse than this load of old bollocks"
or he has been playing football his whole life and is now a professional footballer who plays football for a living , with a football

I don't think people are freaking out over the price, they are more like "oof that slightly more than I thought"

We all understand the benefits etc.

This is not expensive in comparison to the current market. Its almost as if a majority of fans think like Levy. Wake up and look at the figures going around nowadays.

"Too expensive" vs "just pay and get it done". There's no winning. We're dealing with such partial and imperfect information on the money side (both cost and structure, what we have available, what other money is earmarked for other signings etc), so prob should just concentrate on the player and what he brings and minimize tieing ourselves up in knots on the stuff we can't determine...

I'd be interested to know if this is the same deal we allegedly had wrapped up and ready to sign off on weeks ago. Seems to me like the price is going up and up.

I think most fans issue isn't with the money we've spent but how we've spent it and when we've spent it.

We have 5 left backs at the club, 3 right backs and too many average cb's. VDV might turn out to be an incredible signing but you have to agree about the risk.
Calling Perisic a LB is pretty misleading. He was a pretty shocking wing back defensively speaking under Conte. He is in no way a LB and as we've seen under Ange he'll be deployed in an attacking winger role for us if he stays.

Not to mention he looked more natural in the 2x45 mins playing as a winger in pre-season than he ever did playing as a wing-back last season in the Prem.

Must admit that is bloody expensive for someone who has only played 38 games in the bundesliga. Wonder what leverkusen want for Tapsoba if that’s the case.

We had vertonghen and Toby as a Belgium pairing, if the deal doesn’t get done for Tapsoba, we could have a Dutch pairing in VDV and perr schuurs although I’d rather we bought sutalo personally to partner VDV if we can’t get Tapsoba.

much higher ceiling.

fingers crossed for Tapsoba and VDV.

It’s a negotiation that’s been ongoing for a while, it’s not like talks have not been happening for a while yet.

Anyway even if it’s too much money, sometimes you need to just accept fate. It’s annoying though when you think tapsoba might have been valued the same prior to leverkusen selling other players.

Really expensive. We’re obviously struggling with other targets.

Fingers crossed. Not sure he’s ready from what I’ve seen but we clearly need to get something done and we’ve rolled the dice. Fair enough

Fair but there are still 4 left backs at the club.
