Honestly the most disconnected I’ve ever felt from the club was seeing Sherwood as manager. Awful.

He is clearly spouting shite once again. Van de Ven was composed and played really well
He even had a very quick turn to lose to oppostion players in midfield and push on.

Very good debut against a very tough opposition especially considering he has only been training with the team for a few days.

Nothing to add to the specific positives that haven't already been said in here, so for balance, will point out a negative.

Thought both he and Sanchez were poor on the 2nd goal, allowing Wissa go go unmarked when neither of them were marking anyone was a bit of a shocker. Given it was on the right side of the penalty box, its more on Sanchez, but still think he should have been aware of the danger and gone over to mark him. Other than that though, a very good debut.

Hilariously, this toerag also despised Jan Vertonghen.

“Vertonghen is so poor. Can’t move his feet. He looks elegant with the ball but he just can’t defend, this guy.”

Arguably the best defender we’ve had at the club since Ledley but he couldn’t defend, according to Sherwood, who froze him out of the team in favour of *checks notes* Vlad Chiriches.

van de Ven does run kind of with an awkward gait and posture which can give that initial perception. But after watching him over time you can see it's only awkward on the eye and he has good agility and speed.

I need to watch that goal again. But watching it yesterday I think Sanchez is well positioned. Henry very nearly gets past Emerson so he needed to block the route to goal.

Someone should definitely have been picking up Wissa, hopefully better communication between Udogie and vdV over time will help work that out.

It was a 3 on 3 and Wissa was Sanchez man, but Henry getting past Emerson complicated things.

I think I'm being harsh on VdV actually, as he had his man close enough.

Here is a still from when Henry played the ball. Udogie had sprinted back to get to where he is, so was never going to get to Wissa in time.

Sherwood is the one we sent with Ferdinand to make a final rule on Luis Suarez and he reported back that it was nothing in him we didn't already have at the club .. clearly not one to listen to about players.

In that scenario in no world do you ask Sanchez to vacate the front post. Would be interested to see where exactly he moves.

1. Tries to block the cross, which would be wrong.
2. Tried to get to Wissa, but that means he's never getting there
3. Immediately realises he needs to get between Wissa and the goal he'll be shooting at

I think it's probably Udogie who only realised that Wissa was the danger man when the ball was cut back. And even then he almost got there, a bit more coaching and he realises a moment earlier and snuffs out the chance.

If you watch it back you'll see Bissouma and Skipp slowly jogging back into frame. Now I'm not going to blame them because I'm very unclear what their instruction is in this situation under Ange, but picking up that spare man in any other system is Bissouma's job, or at least the deepest lying CM. The back 4 should be holding their line, which 3 of them essentially are.

If ever anyone needed factual statistics to disprove Tim Sherwood being unnecessarily harsh about a foreign signing:

When is he going to stop being rude about players coming in from overseas? If a player who’d come through our academy had put in that performance, Tim would be furiously masturbating about how majestic it was.

Nothing but contempt for the clown and his idiotic viewpoints.
I’d sooner listen to my great-great-great-great-grandmother’s opinions on football and, as you can guess, she’s not got great eyesight.

When you play so high up the pitch you are going to get situations where opposition players will find themselves in loads of space in your box like Wissa when they break on you. It's the quid pro quo of the game, hopefully we’ll develop and cut the times down to a minimum, this was our first game after all.

I'd say the Wissa goal is primarily on Emerson for getting too tight to Henry and getting done for pace. He'd already had the warning signs. Henry was their biggest problem for us.

Even so Wissa had loads of space and time and it was a weak shot that the keeper had covered comfortably until Van de Ven's unlucky deflection. The deflection came about because we were all at a bit of a loss, that's what I think will improve.

What a surprise another former spurs employee who's actually a closet gooner, being a dick about something spurs related in the media cause they're bitter that they aren't relevant anymore. Cool.
Closet? Nothing closet about him, everyone knows he's always been an Arsenal fan.

Makes me mad that him and OHara, another gooner, are allowed and even asked to spout their rubbish about Spurs
