OK so the Telegraph say that Dembers is refusing to sign a contract before the World Cup .

The implication is that he's hoping for a stellar tournament and then a massive final payday from a 'big' club .

I love Mousa, he’s my favourite spurs player and when he’s on it, he’s a joy to watch and totally unplayable.

He’s 30 this summer, so this is his last big contract... reports are he’s on £80k p/w... 2 years on £95k feels deserved and to be honest we’d never get anywhere near the money that he’s actually worth to us.

He’s one of those players that I’d personally keep and ring every last drop of quality out of, until he’s ready for the knackers yard.

Liked Dembele from the day we bought him and can really only remember 1 shocker he's had for us where he was subbed at half time. At the start of the season he looked like injuries had caught up with him. But then he finds an Extra gear and is now playing the best football of his career. But I genuinely think he will go if he gets interest from around Europe's Big clubs. Not in England, abroad. Italy or Spain. Just got a feelin he just may fancy a change in sunnier climates. how do you find a replacement though....

It's hard to imagine Europe's biggest clubs coming in for a 31 year old injury prone player.

Headline doesn’t really correspond with the quotes in the telegraph article. The quotes are sensible and reasonable.

It depends who you're thinking of. I don't expect Barca or Madrid to come knocking, but then again Barca have bought Paulinho.... but I wouldn't rule anybody else out, outside these two. Could certainly see Juve coming in for him especially after seeing him at close quarters

He will not be leaving this summer but he may not sign a new contract. I think he will eventually move closer to home to play so that he can be involved in his future business, I think he has a property business set up and sees that as his future. Pretty sure that is why he has said he won't stay in football when he retires.

Paulinho wasn't injury prone also Juve will be signing Emre Can.

It doesn't make any business sense for top clubs to sign Dembele, don't know why there is any need to worry, it's not like he's 23 and putting in consistent performances every week.

You're right on the age, but consistent performances every week is exactly what Dembele is doing, more than ever in his Tottenham career. Strange comment, you obviously haven't watched us much this season.

Well he's not really is he for example the Juve and Utd games he was excellent, the Palace and Huddersfield games he wasn't as good.

I think you ought to go and watch those two matches again and you'll probably realise, also if you measure consistency by 3 months form then me and you have a different understanding of the word consistency, obviously.

I stated more than ever in his Tottenham Career...which I'm right?

That's neither here nor there if we're talking about a hypothetical scenario if a big team is looking to buy here why would they care about whether he's been putting in his most consistent performances since he's been at Spurs, it's still not as consistent that would turn heads.

Eriksen is the model of consistency I'm talking about for example, rarely drops his levels but when he does he's usually one of the best players on the team, that's the sort of consistency I'm talking about.

Could you be more wrong. Where was his consistent good performances from August to February ? Or even after Juve away ? He's put a run of 3/4 good performances together once this season.

Now that I do agree with. Eriksson is extremely consistent year in year out since he joined and you cannot compare the two for that.
When Eriksen has an off day, Spurs tend to have an off day.

Mousa Dembele's desire to extend Spurs stay by three years could scupper contract talks

Mousa Dembele’s preference for a three-year extension to his contract threatens to further complicate Tottenham Hotspur’s desire to find an agreement with the Belgian midfielder.

Dembele cast doubt on his Spurs future by revealing he will not discuss extending his current deal until after the World Cup and leaving open the possibility that this could be his final campaign at the club.

The 30-year-old’s contract will only have 12 months remaining at the end of this season and manager Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to keep the man he has hailed “a genius.”

But Dembele realises this is likely to be his last big contract and wants a minimum three-year extension, taking him to 2022, when he will turn 35 in July.

Given Dembele’s injury record, it would represent a big risk for Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to agree to a pay increase that would effectively run for four more years from this summer.

But Spurs are also aware that Dembele has interest from Europe, and in particular Italy, following his superb Champions League performance against Juventus in Turin.

Dembele is thought to earn in the region of £80,000-a-week, having signed his current Tottenham contract in January 2016, and is likely to seek an increase to around £100,000-a-week.

Unlike some of their rivals, Tottenham do not have any rules on only offering one-year extensions to players aged 30 or over – largely because they only have four players in that category – Dembele, Hugo Lloris, Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente.

Dembele has also made it clear that he is currently happy at Tottenham and his situation is viewed differently to that of Toby Alderweireld, who is almost certain to leave the club at the end of the season.

Really depends on his fitness. If he were to retire from the Belgium team, that would mean less chance of injuries going into his later years of his career. I can see us offering him a 2 year deal with an optional 1 year if he stays healthy.
