How well he does every game (and Bentancur) considering they're both almost always outnumbered in the centre is so impressive. Would love to see if how we'd do in midfield with him, Bissouma and Bentancur starting.
Wouldn’t be a bad shout to do this at the spammers mid week. We all know they’ll be bang up for it and it’ll be 100mph, going 352 away from home is something I’d like to see us do more often, would give us more control and keep their crowd quiet

Yeah I like him as a player, I think he has a heart of a lion and total commitment. This might sound unfair and don’t mean it to be, but if Conte does ultimately want a tilt at the title and I’m sure he does. I think Hojbjerg falls short, but we are talking about the absolute elite end of things if talking the title in the most competitive league in Europe.

His defensive reading of the game is as elite as it gets

Sometimes, a wolves player went past him like he was a statue last week. As I say I like him as a player but it’s fair to point out when he is not that great as well. I would not sell him and I would 100% have him in the squad. I thought he was fantastic against Forest.

People need to stop expecting him to be something he is not.
And he was excellent most of the time yesterday.

Do not want him sold and appreciate his good qualities but he is part of the reason we concede so much possession. He can pick a pass given time but does not have ability to take ball under pressure and beat the press. Admittedly he makes up for it in other ways but it comes down to personal preference, no point expecting us to play like City & Arsenal with him in the team as it is not his game.

Interesting then that on every ball retention stat (for example failing to control the ball, tackles against, progressive distance, successful dribbles, carries etc.) he’s either good or elite. Ok, stats are not everything, but they tell the opposite story so do you have arguments backing your point?

I think the eye test tells you more than stats. We have seen us be overrun in the middle regularly since Mourinho and don’t often have majority of possession. Hojbjerg has been a major part of that midfield, playing pretty much every game. Am not saying he is a bad player but am accepting his limitations and appreciate what he does bring. I personally prefer controlling the game more.

Go watch Conte’s tactics video. Think about how many games we are going to have to play this year.

I really don’t think Conte wants us to play how we did yesterday. He definitely wants us to be much better in possession, breaking the lines and playing through press consistently going by what he told sky after the game.

You should accept your eyes’ limitations as well then as I accept the limitations using stats. PEH is one of those players whose appearance and movements deceive the eye making him seem less composed than he actually is. That in turn makes you and many others notice his one bad pass and forget the 10 good ones. That is why stats matter and here, the contradiction between the stats and your eyes should really make you think again.

Btw:

  • Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is "a really important player" who is showing "great improvement with the ball, without the ball, in position".
  • "Pierre doesn't divide my head. I am really happy with his performance,"

Absolutely. Any player at all can have an off moment, half or game.

If he keeps adding goals to his game, we can have a very good season. A superb role model of the highest mentality. Even still chasing and pressing at the last minute to protect the lead.

Briliant today. He and Bentancur were world-class. I'm not a PEH 'stan' but credit where it's due; he's stepped up another notch so far this season.

Hopefully these performances can get some parts of the fanbase off his back for every little mistake, been elite this season

This is why it was absurd to continue using the term 'upgrade' - fuckign hate that word. The guy is essential to our team and Ill say this again - his partnership with Bentancur is what works. Bissouma and Bentancur may not work but for now PEH and Bentancur works a treat and see their partnership as reaping benefits.
