He's just a chaotic type of player who breaks up play. He wins some duals and loses others but fights a lot for the ball. I thought against City he stopped a lot of momentum they were building by being a nuisance. We needed that 2nd half because they were too comfortable. Even just giving those odd fouls away has an impact. Its the type of play opponents will do against us to break our rhythm. He has a use for those moments and I think its why he's a useful sub. If an opponent is getting control later in a game he comes on and upsets that a lot of times. We just want to feel we can control every game and not need someone like him. Maybe that can happen with the right purchases but we should find him useful in the meantime. Once the season has played out and we're fully functioning the way Ange wants we can look to replace for someone more comfortable in possession. For now he's doing a job for the team and should be supported for it.

There are certain player threads in here, wherein certain members have their minds so set on that player they can't see anything positive at all.
No matter how they perform, or what they do, certain members will be straight in with the "he's just shit" type comment.

It's not just said once or twice though, it's tireless.
It's the same in here as it is in the Skipp thread, the Davies thread and countless others. It's even creeping into the Johnson thread already.

We all know that some of these players aren't suited to our style and probably don't have a future here but we don't need to read how "shit" they are continuously, especially after they've come in and done an ok (or even good) job.

We've always had a scapegoat on here and I blame Jenas for that (😁) but we're now picking on the majority of the so called B team.

If we've been shit because of one player for the last three years, then that's not the fault of that one player.

There's a bizarre want from Spurs fans to feel giving any praise to a player means you're in a treehouse with him K I S S I N G. You can give credit when credit is due, no one's going to think you're calling for a statue to be comissioned.
This is the same place where if you give another team credit then you're apparently twerking for them. Trust me, some are stubborn and have agendas and biases. They will never change.

While that's true, I have seen a couple of people twerking quite hard in the Arsenal thread before and certainly more of a twerk than just giving credit.
There are levels and we should all have some kind of standards! 😂

We will always find what we are looking for, that’s what confirmation bias is all about

I also rem myself being so frustrated at the moments where PEH gave the ball away or didn’t show for the ball or didn’t chase runners

BUT outside of these moments, by and large, PEH’s introduction allowed us to play out more confidently and effectively from our goal kicks and by and large, evade their press. Even tho he seemingly slows us down (cuti for eg does tend to hold on to the ball supposedly longer than wat fans expect), it allows players to run in positions and create space and passing options.

And hence, in the 2nd half, we managed to wrestle control of the match back and I believe this is why Ange was so pleased. Because city stopped dominating.

so both are right - peh did frustrate n give the ball away n not chase runners but he also did win us back control of the game

Well said.
And the other point to make is about his attitude. He’s clearly not part of Ange’s plans but when called upon he still gives everything.
He’s not the most technically gifted players and doesn’t suit Ange’s style but would people rather his attitude or someone like Marcus Rashford who gets a huge deal, picked every week and barely lifts a finger?

We would be mad not to keep Pierre. The very first thing I would say about him is he gives 100% every time he takes the field.
he is an International for his country
he is Viking
he can score goals
he is so good at being physical
he is good at speaking with the ref
he is good at taking one for the team
he is great at training when it’s col
he stands up when chips are down❤️

As big Ange would say: nah mate, he’s fine. As you say, his attitude is never in doubt. But his technical abilities are criminally underrated. And he’s adaptable. He offers a lot more than shutting games down.

Spot on. We do need to upgrade though and there are allegedly plenty of interested parties. As I've said previously, I'd swap him out for Kalvin Phillips with not too much extra money. That frees up a non HG squad space and brings in a more versatile player who has a similar work ethic and a bit more composure on the ball.

Phillips would be great if City would sell to us like they did to Arsenal. A midfield 6 of Bissouma, Phillips, Bentancur, Sarr, GLC and Maddison would set us nicely for a European season. If Skipp is happy for a limited role in the squad he can cover but we might get a decent offer for him too.

Seriously, what do you guys think?
I think he's pretty good when he is instructed to and playing within his wheelhouse. I think for the way we set up now he's not going to have the opportunity to do that very often. I'd also say he is a player that wants to play every minute of every game and he's not going to get close to that with us. Sell him whilst he still holds some value is my opinion on it. He could be a great player in Italy or Spain.

I’d like an upgrade. But a genuinely better player who can fulfil both defensive and attacking roles will be difficult to find, and not cheap.

So whether we keep or sell really comes down to what other realistic options exist for us.

I wouldn’t sell without a better replacement.

It's worth remembering he only has 18 months left on his contract this January will be the final chance to get decent money for him. Come the Summer that will reduce again and even more so if he has hardly played.
