It would be nice to see the following. I can but live in hope of ever seeing it.

Vicario

Porro Romero VDV Udogie

Bissouma Bentancur

Maddison

Kulu Richarlison Son
Tbh I dont want kulu at RW any more. I much prefer two rapid wingers, and I would be very tempted to have our starting cms as benta sarr and maddison. I am just not sure biss has it in him any more, his confidence might return but ultimately benta is a much better player.

I genuinely think that he's got a fight on his hands for a first team spot, right now. As much as I love the guy, probably our best footballer in the squad with Maddison... Bissouma and Sarr just make a perfect double act, Sarr in particular I think is absolute mustard.

Nice to have 3 top level CM's to rotate through, to complement the arguably 5 top level forwards.

Against villa he was so good they had to injure him.

He will play!

Maybe not start every game, but he will play his fair share, especially if we are in Europe we will need him, and his experience.

I think people seem to be mistaking this as me not thinking he's as good as Bissouma/Sarr (even though I've literally written "probably our best footballer in the squad"). But I don't think anyone just gets to just walk straight back into a team when the current balance is so good. Bissouma and Sarr have been exceptional as a midfield duo for nearly half a season. Of course its a squad game (as the last month has proven), and ideally you can interchange players game by game with no negative impact. But the reality is that balance, understanding and partnerships are built up with repeated familiarity. That's why the concept of a settled 11 has never gone away in 100 years of the game.

And that's why I think Bentacur, as much as I think he's awesome and would probably shag him, has to earn that starting berth by building the same level of understanding with Bissouma and Sarr that those two already have with each other.

I don't disagree with this. The problem is if you try and shoehorn him into a more central position, that would mean having to sacrifice one of Bentancur, Bissouma by my reckoning - this on the basis that Maddison is untouchable. Kulu and Maddison operating in similar areas wouldn't work for me. Still, given the calibre of players we now have, it's a nice problem to have.

Why are people in here going hard on Bissouma being the fall guy?

The guy has been fantastic this season. We will have a mix of players I think in Sarr, Maddison, Bissouma and Bentancur where I think they all have a major part to play.

Could really do with Bentancur coming back ahead of schedule and being available for at least part of the time Bissouma and Sarr are away.

Unfortunately don’t think he’ll be back until just after they get back.

Think i'd prefer a winger in stead of Kulusevski.
And although Bentancur and Bissouma probably are better individuals than Sarr,
I wonder if Sarr has an important role in the team that the other can't solve.
His movement opens up so much for us.

The nature in which he was forced out again still pisses me off really. It's frustrating that by the time we may get players back, we'll be losing another important trio through different means.

What could have been had we not had all these disruptions.

I get what you're saying, but what about how it is now the squad is stepping up to to compensate for Madison, et al? The upside for me is that the squad is getting exposed to game time, and that can only be a positive for us moving forward.

Yeah I agree, that is definitely a positive. It's really refreshing to know that us without Maddison for one, is not the same as it was with us when Eriksen wasn't present. No Eriksen meant no to very little creativity, but that is really pleasingly not the case at all without Maddison. Of course we miss something, but the quality of our play isn't impacted as much as I maybe would have thought and like you say, it's allowed other players to step up.

I can’t fathom a best XI that doesn’t include Bentancur.
It’s not always about picking the best overall players - sometimes it’s better to pick the best players for specific roles.

I think maybe you could make an argument that Bentancur is a better option as a 6, than Bissouma, but that would be close. Bissouma offers slightly more defensive support, and Bentancur slightly better as a holding midfielder.

Sarr is better at the 8 role - given his ability to cover as much ground as he does - going forward, and tracking back. Bentancur is better at ball control and passing - but that specific role requires much more athleticism than even pre-injury Bentancur had, and it will be a bit less now.

And Maddison is clearly a better 10.

But for me, it’s less about who starts every game, but how much cover we can have both for rotation and also in-match substitution or even just setting up slightly different based on opposition. Maddison, Sarr, Bissouma, and Bentancur would all play loads even when all are healthy.
