Proper footballers like him are able to read the game 3 or 4 steps ahead of everyone else. It's what made the likes of Scholes, Zidane, Pirlo etc so good.
Not sure i understand the term "proper" in this context but fully agree with the sentiment. Toby had a similar ability but on the defensive side. He could see where the ball was going long before others did. The difference was that he would collect and then release it quickly.

As in someone who encapsulates the talent and nuances of using a football, and applying it in the context of a match. Rather than an athlete who is optimised to play a certain role. The difference between a "Footballer" and a mere "Player".

I put Bentancur firmly in the former bracket.

E.g:

Messi = Footballer
Ronaldo = Player

Thanks and that makes complete sense.

So good. Absolute Rolls Royce in the middle. If Bissouma clicks with him, to support PEH and Skipp we've got one hell of a midfield.

He reminds me of Carrick, Dembele and Berbatov the way he plays the game.

I think we should be arrested as a club, we absolutely robbed Juventus for those two players.
And although technically we signed him from Atlanta, Juve also need to give their head a wobble for parting with Romero so quickly.

What a trio! Talk about 3 ideal upgrades to the first 11.

Absolutely. Looked as if he has gone up a level even on last season.

I'd go so far to say as he's still not 100% adjusted to the PL, either. Imagine how much more he can improve with another season under his belt. Already my favourite player.

Excellent performance and particularly in the first half it was noticeable that Saints gave PEH loads of time in the ball. However, every time it came to Bentancur they swarmed him.

So good to see a player who can pass with both feet, gives so many more options.

Purrs around the pitch especially given a bit of time. Last season there were a few games where he wanted more time than he was allowed esp in some of the harder games but I love how he glides about and gets stuck in. Just hope that he starts to shoot a touch more as only slight criticism would be that sometimes he lays it off or tries to when it might be easier and more effective to shoot.

He is a smooth player in how he just moves aroudn the pitch. Smooth and slick.

He gets nowhere near enough credit

I think he has made the difference more than anyone in our upturn in fortune. How we lacked someone who could take the ball under pressure and find a pass. He does it with such ease. I think he transformed the team.

Him and Romero are my favourite players at the moment.

He’s what we’ve needed for a long, long time. Plays on the half turn, head up, can pass with either foot, plays forward, doesn’t shit himself under pressure.

He’s such a lovely player to watch.

Really like him. Gets around the pitch really well and makes lots of interceptions. Can be sloppy with longer range passes but I'm sure he'll continue to improve

one of those players who looks like he has a few extra seconds on the ball than everyone else. he's so calm and composed - and i am ab absolute sucker for those types of players. only going to get better too imo
