Whilst we're here:

Steven Kelly
Kyle Naughton
Phil Ifil
Chris Gunter
Noe Pamarot

None of them were ever first choice? Possibly Pamarot.

All I remember is Ifil had one good game and Gunter and Naughton were unmissably immobile. Aurier has inflicted more suffering on us than them, which seems important.

All those players including the 3 you just mentioned wouldn't get anywhere near this current side, if they played you'd see how incredibly average they were. If those players struggled to get mins back then and were 2nd choice it's because they weren't very good and this in an era where it was much easier for full backs.

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing probably. If you can remember those players - on which congratulations! - I'm sure they're a couple of tiers below Serge as you say. We're probably talking at cross purposes - I just want to insist on how unhappy Serge makes me, pointless as that is. ?‍♂️

As far as the debate goes, I'd say the Aurier occupancy of our right side is noticeably worse than Corluka-Lennon and everything that's come since.

Walker was pretty good, many didn't really appreciate him at the time but when he left there was a huge hole in his absence.

He could give the impression of being very dense, but you could see him working on his decision making and distribution season by season. Then he was aware of his technical limitations - eg replaced crosses with pullbacks. And lacked nothing physically or in effort. If he'd just had a right foot anywhere near Trippier's he'd be something like the complete fullback.

Out of position? What????

Pukki gets on the wrong side of Toby and Aurier comes around to cover him. He’s absolutely in the correct place there. Jesus.
He's not even running at this point:

Also how anyone could blame Toby for this is beyond me.
It’s actually unbelievable how wrong you are. If it isn’t Toby’s fault, why has he allowed Pukki to run inside him? Why would Aurier be tucked in yet when the ball is in the middle of the pitch?
I get you hate Aurier but stop letting it cloud your judgement ffs
Aurier needs to be tucked in because
1) Sanchez has come out for the ball. It is a basic element of coaching kids that if someone presses then he needs to have cover. It’s possible we could question Sanchez’ judgement but I’d have to rewatch it.
2) There is a giant gap in our defence and so regardless of the reason, Auriers first responsibility is to defend the goal. That is more important than being where a right back would be on a tactics board. Indeed the fact the ball is on the middle of the pitch makes this even more important.

Toby is in the right place there.

His stats in the premier league doesn’t match the comments in terms of assists, crosses, yellow cards, fouls etc So something ain’t making sense.

Is there a statistic for how many times somebody let's an opposing player ghost past them because if there is that would probably back up the general consensus that this guy can't defend.

Yes the worse ever. He’s given away needless penalties. Asleep most of the time and was completely at fault for Willians first goal. Caught out of position on numerous occasions. Offers very little going forward. Name me a worse RB in tottenhams history that is worse than Aurier.

How did this transfer get through our committee.

A right back who can’t defend!

One of the many reasons we’ve slipped backwards. You only have to look at Liverpool to see what a good transfer team can accomplish. Their fullbacks are superb while ours are a joke.

The debate in here the last couple of pages has reminded me we have had some proper gash RB’s over the years.

Talking of Aurier and a lot of of our players really i wonder if other clubs have as many players who are capable of the amount of brainfarts we see as it seems like we have a high number of players capable of having an absolute mare with some degree of regularity.

Not really on Serge the own goal but definitely not surprised it went in off of him.

First stop comparing him to TTA all the time to make points. TTA is by far the best in the league at the moment. Compare him with the right backs around us then we can properly compare. Numerous times have I seen him make last ditch tackles/interceptions to save us a goal. So far this season he hasn’t made any errors leading to goals. He’s up there on assists with other defenders in the league and had the most tackles for us. You guys have really got it in for him when there are much bigger issues going on.

He made an error the led to a goal last night ffs. Just because it was disallowed by VAR it doesn't mean he didn't fuck up. He's a calamity and as I said he always reverts to braindead error's that will cost us. He is a lunatic on the pitch, he's crap defensively and crap going forward. Nowhere near good enough.

He's either decent or liability & too often he's a liability. He was yesterday & we need someone far more consistent at FB.

You can't objectively compare 2 players unless they're playing in the same team. I don't think TAA would be half the player in our team with our setup and tactics.

Primativ I'm afraid I can't continue in this conversation with you any longer my friend. You seem like a decent enough fella but...come on man...now we are including disallowed goals and offsides SMH
