I've just had the realisation that Sonny is 32 next year. He's obviously taken extremely good care of himself but there can't be many more years left playing at the very top level. That's really sad, one of our all time greats.
I think at least 2-3 more years if he wants. David Silva left MC when he was 35 or thereabouts?
Maybe even more if he adopts his game aka C.Ronaldo.

I feel confident that he will be able to maintain a very high level of performance for another couple of seasons at least. It is going to be a very difficult task to replace him though.

During Ange's presser today:

Was Son an obvious captain and has that got him back to where he was?

"Was he the obvious one? I don't know. For me he seemed to be the right choice. Some of these things are about timing, where the group is at and where individuals are at. I've got a long history with Sonny, not directly but I've been well aware of him as a footballer for a very long time because of the part of the world I come from. I've always really liked the way he's carried himself for his club and national team, the way people speak about him. And working with him, I had no doubt he had all the qualities to be an outstanding leader, whether as captain or part of the leadership group. But I think particularly with Harry leaving there was a massive void both on and off the field in terms of presence and I felt Sonny was a really good choice to fill that void. I knew he'd take it in the right way and he's had great assistance from Madders, Cuti Romero and other senior players. Has it helped him with his game? It's well chronicled he had some issues last year physically which hampered him but I think he feels like he's in a good place and maybe the extra responsibility has added to that because he's really enjoying his football and wants to make an impact."

I noticed against Palace, Sonny running around to our players giving direction and support, I thought, now we finally have a good captain, no disrespect to Hugo, but this is a better match.

tbf a keeper can't run around to his teammates during a game. But agreed, Son was an astute choice. He's love and respected by everyone, embodies the club and is someone the whole fan base can connect with.

It's not just the captain though. It's the collective group of leaders we've lacked for a few years. There's not really been anyone in defence and midfield to do it. Son and Kane up top and Lloris in goal but he was way further down in his own quality. We now have Vicario taking responsibility and then the vice captain Romero in front and Maddison with Son further forward. I don't think we've had enough on field leaders who are top performers for a while. I think Hojbjerg maybe the most recent leader previously but he's not the most calming influence on the ball. Dier also at the back is so unreliable you cant have him as a leader. Only Kane from that leadership group really inspired confidence but he was up front. So Son is no doubt doing a great job as captain buy its also vital we have leaders through the spine and we now have that. I think Bentancur will be the leader in midfield too. That's a lot more assuring than Lloris, Dier, Hojbjerg, Kane.

Was Son's goal vs Ch£l$ki offside?

What a belter of a goal that was! Would have been game clincher as well. Things started to go downhill after it was disallowed...

So, on the first image it looked level to me (during the live Sky broadcast). On the second image it looked slightly offside but the angle was worse and not sure a correct one to view it from. I can't remember them drawing lines, did they?

they did. ever so slightly off. Have to say it was the quickest offside call the linesman made all night in a match of delayed/no calls

Sonny’s form with us has always been streaky and when things are positive he is great and smiling

just that when chips are down, he does also tend to be affected.

not having cuti n madders today showed he can’t lead by himself

we had no leader on the pitch today
