Roy Keane and Carragher glowing about his work rate and performance as captain. Nice to hear.

I feel like his build up play has improved so much too, can actually be quite neat and tidy now. I remember thinking about how bad it was under Conte at times.

Loved how when he dropped for our 3rd goal, and played the ball wide to Johnson, with our cf not in the box, there was still Richie + Destiny + Deki in the box to try to get on the end of Johnson’s cross

having options to pass to and getting the ball away from the edge of our own box help.

Aside from his leadership and finishing he's still absolutely rapid at 31 and often able to run all game. Also seems to be able to do this while carrying niggles.

Agreed that his link up play has gone up a level too, seem to remember he was also better at it under Poch when we also valued possession more.

Given he clearly maintains himself very well, the idea that he was going to drop of a cliff once he reaches his thirties seems unlikely, injuries permitting.

Who on earth covers Sonny when he goes to the Asia games?

Richy up top didn't cut the mustard previously.

B.Johnson perhaps or even Kulu as a rogue shout in that position?

Veliz is too young and not ready yet.

I really hope we sign another striker or attacking player early in Jan as I fear for our goals and system to break down a bit with no Sonny leading the line, unless Richy somehow comes good up there now he is injury free.

Ange is actually coaching players rather than just moaning at them and saying how shit our club is. That probably does wonders for improving players 😂

I think it will be horses for courses. If you want someone who will create the same fear in defenders of running in behind and cause them to play slightly deeper as a result thats Johnson, if you want your forward to be a pain in the arse and create a physical threat, thats Richy

to be fair, he was being drilled constantly last season in his hold up play so you would imagine that hes improves as a result as well

He has to be the best big game player we've had in my lifetime. He just scores in so many of the big games. More so than Kane it feels. 2 in the NLD and 1 against each of Liverpool and City already this season. The one he just doesn't score strangely is Wolves but often scores against the top teams.

Do we think he is a good leader?

I think our form is down to our injuries and the fact that no-one apart from Son can put the ball in the net but is it a coincidence that we've gone 1-0 up and lost or not won 5x in a row for the first time ever under Sonny's leadership? When the chips get down does he drop his head too quickly?

I don't know the answer to this but just an observation. As I said i think our form is down to injuries and lack of goalscoring players but we will see longer term how good a leader Sonny is.

Struggling to see how this correlates that strongly to Son over all the other reasons we've had a tough time of it.

If heads drop thats the whole team, Son dropping his head (if that even happens) is not going to trigger everyone else doing the same.

Interesting question. I think he's very good at aspects of it. He leads by example, he isn't a glory hunter, he's delighted for other players and the collective when they get the limelight and he's the most likeable player we've had in years.

However, someone raised a point after the Chelsea game that I think holds some water. Should Sonny have been calming things down when it was clear we were self-destructing?

All in all, I'm happy with him but there may be areas he can do better as captain.
