Real shame for Sonny as this has been a very bad season for him so far.

I don’t recall him ever being this off form for so many games, even his first season when he struggled a bit to settle he was actually good when he first came in but an injury then upset his groove and he couldn’t re-capture his form when coming back into team.

Psychologically it'd be such a huge blow for him to miss the world cup though. I know his form couldn't get much worse but I wonder in what state of mind he'd come back in if that happened.
Exactly. It's nonsense to think him missing out is a blessing.

Sonny is a confidence player and him going to and having a strong WC would only mean we get a returning Sonny who is confident and in good form.

If he doesnt go, he could very well suffer for a while

No thank God but it just reminded me of that horrible swine John Fashanu's attack on Mabbutt.
I think that's harsh to be honest. It was an innocent header where Fashanu assaulted Mabbutt with his challenge.

Looking up Twitter for news of him and everyone is just wishing him speedy recovery with photos of his smiley and happy nature. Then when you see him in the injured state at Marseille it's just so heartbreaking..

I know he hasn't been the best of form for us, but I just hope he can return to his goal scoring touch and be happy with everyone in the club again, for the rest of his career here even..

My question is why wasn’t the defender booked?
From what I remember, it was a standard 50/50 ball. Sonny never really committed to it, and the defender wanted it more. Unfortunately, it has resulted in a bad injury.

I guess it depends how he feels, a mask could be fine to allow him to play while he recovers. He may be reluctant to go up for headers but it's not a big part of his game. Healing time doesn't mean he can't play, just a matter of how much he can do. Players play with casts while a hand or arm heals for example.

It was just a clash, no elbows involved, though as I remember it Son actually won the header. The defender just got there a split second late.

Edit: Just seen a replay, they pretty much headed it together. Son had more of a standing start and the defender came in from a few yards away.

It was nothing like that. The elbow on Mabbut was deliberate and premeditated.
One on Son was a coming together like we see 20x every game
I think it was a crafty professional foul, designed to take him out of the game. They were trying to rough up H too. More subtle than Fash on Mabbs but that’s the sly style of the French league- Klins was talking about it on the Athletic podcast the other week.
