And Son played right? How odd!

(I’ve not been watching as much lately as was getting too stressed lol ??).
Mainly to move him away from Walker, James and TAA in each instance. Worked a treat v Cancelo, he and Chilwell cancelled eachother out, mixed bank v Robertson.

Sterling wasn't exactly a goal machine at 23 either.

Exactly this. What happened to us coaching and developing players? The shit i've read on here and Twitter effectively writing a 23 year old off after less than a year proves what idiots most football fans are. It's not like we paid £80m+ for some ready made world class superstar. He was signed for £30m from an inferior league. That is dirt cheap in today's market. He was never going to come in and start firing from the off but so far he's shown enough ability to think he could, at the very least, make positive contributions to our season.

Says a lot about him that even when he does miss chances he still tries to get on the ball and doesn’t hide. Think he’s going to be really quite good after his first spell of really being in the goals rather than the odd one here and there

I quote him alot but Ally G is the best Spurs journalist out there imo. He was talking about Steve B and what he said makes a lot of sense. He has started 6 of the last 8 games. Jose won't allow that if he feels you aren't contributing enough. Basically Ally (and Jose by the sounds of it) thinks he does everything except score. We look a bigger goal threat when he plays because of his unselfish work to create space for Son and Kane to do their stuff. In Jose's words, adding goals to his game is the final piece of Steve B's jigsaw, but as I've mentioned before, Sterling wasn't exactly a goal machine at 23 either.

Give him time guys, his assists and goals will come.
Sterling scores a lot now and his finishing has improved, but I still don't see him as a natural finisher. His XG must be relatively average, but he gets into goal-scoring positions so frequently that he scores a lot regardless. In our squad, Kane, Son and Bale are natural finishers, but I'm not convinced that anyone else is.

Bergwijn has scored a couple of impressive goals where it wasn't really on (debut goal against City and a 25-yard winner in pre-season), which demonstrates that he can strike the ball well, but only a couple of his numerous close-range chances (like a young Sterling). It could be a confidence issue (each missed chance will certainly add pressure for the next), but I think he needs to work on his technique and precision, if he's to have any chance of becoming a consistent goal threat. I agree that he already makes a good overall contribution, but if he could finish half as well as Kane and Son we'd be top of the league right now, so it would be great if he can improve this side of his game.

I would like to see him get 45 minutes against Wycombe and in that time hopefully bag a goal or a couple assists. That way he can go into the Liverpool game with a bit more confidence.

I said before even todays game that he has been playing well and really carrying out Joses instructions. Today he had more of an impact in the front line and an attackign sense which was good to see.

Really want him to score to give him that impetus

I’m one of his biggest fans, but I must point out the lack of closing down the cross which led to the goal. Made up for it with a perfect chipped assist though. Besides his final shot (not pass, as it is quality), he has everything you want in an attacker. He plays intricate, 1 touch football, he can go by players, he’s got a great touch, he holds the ball up really well, his passing and decision making are great, he works hard defensively. Most importantly, when he plays, the team looks better and more connected in attack. He makes unselfish runs, he moves around the pitch to create space for himself and others constantly. Add goals, and you genuinely have an elite wide forward.
