Improving players must be part of a managers' remit - something Poch was exceptional at doing.
At 200k a week I would expect the finished article.

I’m always uncomfortable attributing player improvements where a player goes from young to experienced to a manager. I’m not sure there’s evidence as such of Pochettino improving many player’s base level, but perhaps more that for an extended period he got the best out of those players. It’s a subtle difference but a difference nonetheless.Improving players must be part of a managers' remit - something Poch was exceptional at doing.
I agree, it certainly has to be. But how long do you persist? And what damage is done while you do that?
Jose is no novice, he knows when a player doesn't have the right mentality, he knows when to cut losses.
If he is clearly not giving his best cannot we withhold his wages?

Mourinho would pander to a player if he liked him. But Jose has had his mind made up before he even arrived. Ndombele is too creartive and too much flair for a defensive manager. Ironically, this type of player is what Jose’s teams need most.
No, unless he does stuff like missing training. I can't have my wages docked if I just turn up every day and go through the motions without making an effort.

If anyone in a normal job went into work for a year and half-arsed performance we’d be sacked, let’s be honest.

I think that price probably reflects a year of depreciation. In accounting terms, his value is whatever we paid for him, minus 1/5th (assuming it was a 5 year contract) for every year that passes until the deal runs out or he signs a new one. It basically means Levy is happy to pay for the year we've had from him, but a figure below 80%, of what we paid, is a loss.
