Thought he was our best player by a distance.

Obviously should of scored, but some great runs and movement

I would have started him today, but this is a bit disingenuous. All wingers look better against tired defences, particularly when the sting is out of the game.

Fulham were never tired. They were scrappiing all the way with bags of energy.

The great thing about the deal was that we brought him in with no obligation so if we don't feel he meets our needs we let him return. The only problem with that is that the question becomes should we keep him not should we buy him, because he wears the shirt we feel more of an obligation to him. The same thing happened last year when some people thought we should keep Lenglet when I doubt they would have been clamouring to buy him. That's where I am with Timo Werner, he wears the shirt and tries hard so I have an affinity to him but I remain unconvinced we should take up the option.

Agreed. He's a decent player, and were he 22, I'd want us to keep him, as he would likely improve. But he's 28 and isn't going to. Where we are now, we need better.

He is what he is and he won’t change or improve. He’s 28 years old and still misses sitter after sitter.

He works hard and he tries to make an impact but he’s just a limited player.

If we are content with Europa league and occasional CL qualification then sign him up as a squad player. If we want to do what scum have done and keep striving to improve then we need better than him. Simple as that.

He's the only one who will get on the ball and drive at the fullback. He can be very direct but also takes care with what he's going to do when he gets to the box. He has a bit of Lennon about him when he matured and started to use his head more to go with the pace. I think he should be starting but also a great weapon off the bench. Either comes on and runs at tired legs or starts and tires the opponent.

Looked better than Kulu and Johnson, but still doesn’t look good enough to warrant purchasing for me still.

I’d rather see if we can get more out of Johnson (who was Sunday league yesterday) then know what we are - and are not - getting from Werner. I’d much rather see a new winger come in

Interesting that after the Villa game most of the posts were signing him is a “no-brainer” and one game later it’s all being unsure.

I’m not suggesting these are the same people.

For me it’s still a case of if we’re looking to buy 2 attackers then I’m happy for us to sign him. If only 1, I’d rather we look elsewhere first.

My opinion hasn't really changed thus far. For me I'd prefer to get one younger player with big potential for one wing and then a more established player for the other. If however getting Werner would allow us to go out and spend more on a player of significant class for the other wing then I'd also be content with that. I don't see that being the case tho.

For what it's worth if we did retain Werner I'm fairly certain we would still add another WF so I wouldn't worry too much about him potentially being our only attacking addition. Ether way I think we will have two new WF in, possibly one being Werner, with Gil and possibly Solomon leaving.

I just do not understand why anyone would want us to sign him permanently. He's doing OK, but he simply is not the player we need to take us to the next level. We already have a bunch of decent forwards, we don't need another one to take up squad space, we need top quality additions so we can compete with the teams above us.
Maybe because he’s actually good, cheap and adds a lot when he comes on. I agree we need a special player to take us up a notch but werner would be very good back up.

Yeh but that's the point, we are unlikely to get a special player if we continue to fill the squad with just good players. We already have Johnson, Kulusevski, Solomon, Richarlison in attack, they are all good, the only attacker we you who you could argue is currently elite is Son. If it was Werner and another then fair enough, I just can't see that happening.

There aren’t many footballers you’d bet your house on missing sitters as regularly as Werner. It’s some skill he’s got.

How he missed that chance against Fulham I’ll never know. If it was a one off I’d say fair enough as all players can miss chances but with him it’s just far too common.

Hopefully we are hard at work scouting quality players and young talent who can improve us.

Im pretty sure we will take him, im not saying its for the right reasons, but this is Spurs. This is the exact kind of deals we do. We always take this kind of deal. It will be no different this time.

For what its worth i like Timo, despite the horror miss he was our best attacking player vs Fulham (appreciate that is best of a horrible bunch) he has show plenty of ability to take on his man and get into good spaces.

In the summer do you really believe we just picked cheap options? Only Solomon appears to fit that.

he's both the solution and the problem at the moment.

the solution being you can get a good player, at a great price, that adds depth exactly where we need it. and we all want timo to come good and hit a purple patch. his output, including assists has been good and we see the value on the pitch he brings.

the problem, is this value for money, too good to miss out on, type of deal is exactly why we haven't hit the next level. He's not going to be the next Son (he's 28?), and this is it. Would he start for a team trying to win the title this year? prob not.

so a non-brainer that likely doesn't get us nearer a title or cup.

I didn't say its the only deals we do. I didn't say look at the summer or previous windows ALL we do is this.

But no one can sit there and say that we haven't got a past habit of easier options and cheaper options when they are available.

That's just working the market. Fans love writing up lists of targets but often ignore obtainability.

There have been times when we've done it poorly but recently our cheap deals appear to be good signings.

Yeah I think is spot on.

Does he add value and quality to the squad? Of course he does.

But is he a next level signing like van de Ven, Vicario or even Maddison? Does he shift us up a level? I’m not sure.

I think everyone takes him over Gil and Solomon but the worry is we miss out on someone better, especially if we can’t move him on after we’ve bought him.

I actually think most fans agree about this. It’s just the ones who are keener to buy him are more optimistic about other transfer moves we will make, whereas those less keen are worried about the knock on effect buying him could have on future buys.

Werner Solomon Gil
Son Richy
Deki Johnson

If we want 7 attackers again next season we need to sell 2. For me that's Solomon and Gil, although I'd want to loan Solomon out to another PL side for the season.

That gives the option buying a top winger and striker with Sonny being able to play both
