Obviously there is a lot to like here - but at the top of the list for me - Ange has specifically spoken about wanting to improve our attack - and here we are trying to improve our attack.

That says to me - Ange wants to win now, and the club are doing their best to give him players to make that happen - without blowing the budget, or upsetting long-term growth.

I still prefer not to have someone who played for Chelsea, just the way I feel 😩
I guess you're not one of the many fans in here hoping for a Gallagher-transfer then 😊

I welcome Werner... he was never loved at Chelsea... I don't think he cares about them.

trying to understand what people are basing the optimism on Werner on?

has anyone watched him since he has gone back to Germany? From my understanding teams just don’t leave space to run in behind and he struggles

Just in the premiership era, gallas was good, cudicini was solid. Even gudjohnsen wasn't a total flop. There's probably more I'm missing but just off the top of my head
Jimmy Greaves played for Chelsea, turned out to be one of our greatest players... Maybe The best 😊

If he's crap he'll just be our version of Darwin Nunez, but will cost a lot less than £100m.

If it’s not Werner it would be Gil and Scarlett…

No brainer.

He’ll suit Ange's style of football so well, great signing and most importantly it’s signed and sealed early in the window.

Think its
1) because it seems big ange has requested him so let’s back the manager and he’s the best judge of who fits the system
2) if it doesn’t work we just lose the cost of his wages which is probably £2.5m over six months
3) it’s January, we likely have a budget, so this seems like decent risk-reward in the circumstances
4) if he does well the buy clause seems a really sensible level

difficult to watch last night and conclude we don’t need another attacking option too

Nusa would be for the future and not related to this signing btw like sarr and destiny that deal if happens will be a buy to loan back for the season he’s got so many suitors . Jota was only linked from ange he wasn’t a major target on the list compiled he may have been later in the window if we failed for targets. The one ange wanted if gettable was the lad in Holland but don’t think the budget was there this month with a cb signing too . If Pierre goes we will get a cm. We like fofana at Monaco and Connor at Chelsea. However Phillips is probably the most achievable right now as of today that could change as always .
Hopefully we shift Hojbjerg out and get a new CM in who can play a bit. Thanks for the update 👍

It will be nice to have options with genuine pace, Son, Johnson and now Werner. We’ve lacked options with pace for a few years so to have at least three now will be great.

Will see how he does, have my reservations, but every hope he becomes a success and will fully back him and support him in the hope he is.

Some of these goals are outrageous

Even if he can get back to 50% of the player he was, he will still be more clinical than Richarlison.

I agree with the sentiment, and for the record I’m actually buzzing for how well this signing could go.
But you tube clips mean less than nothing.
Just take a look at Richys best bits and you’ll get my point.

Richy has never been near peak Werner levels.

What's the downside?

Doesn't work he just goes back. We are woefully short for United next week.

Kuluskevski needs to play in the middle with Maddison out.

We can now play Werner, Richarlison and Johnson giving us a lot of pace with Kuluskevski in the 10 role with Lo Celso and Bentancur in the middle. Much better.

You do know that Kulu and Bentancur were struggling to get a start at Juve?

If on Feb 1st you'd have learned that we had missed out on getting Werner would you be so dismissive?

Werner is set up for the system Ange uses, and can also play across the front line, so why shouldn't fans be optimistic?

He’s quick, he used to be good and our manager apparently wants him.

You do know Werner is a striker?
