I think we didn't plan to make this deal perm, he was brought in as a stop-gap for Son while he was at the Asian Cup.

but man he is making life tough for Levy.

If he starts getting goals, i don't think we will want to let him leave.
I disagree mate.

I don't know where we stand with the option - but we would not have spent the loan fee to cover a few weeks of Sonny being out, and Ange will have given Werner assurances about competing for playing time for the rest of the season. Remember Werner wanted the loan to get some minutes and earn a Euros spot. If he thought he was going to be done contributing in February, he would have looked elsewhere.

I also think his profile fits very nicely with how Ange set up at Celtic, and presumably wants to play here. So, I think Werner gets a real chance to play the rest of the season, and he is well on the way for us to pick up the option.

Helps that he seems nice too.

Even though he is here on loan primarily and only played few games I feel he is more like a Spurs player than Ndombele and shows more hunger.
Hopefully he does enough to stay perm.

First half was very frustrating, thought he was a bit weak with his delivery and indecisive in the final third. Second half he was a different beast though. Very very good shift from him.
Second half he started getting the quick passes he needs from his team mates and was able therefore to exploit the space in the Brentford defence.

Rather a limited skillset but very very good at what he is good at.

Do any old gits of my vintage notice a similarity to Martin Peters in the way he always seems able to find acres of space even in the most crowded areas of the pitch?

Peters similar ability to find space but also had the ability to score goals.

Werner has scored 151 goals in his career so far (409 games). Plus 24 in 57 for Germany.

For comparison, at the same age Peters had scored 100 goals in 364 games and ended up with 20 goals in 67 England appearances.

Timo has the ability to score goals.

Disagree entirely. Ndombele shows more hunger than any player to have ever played the game.

Puts in a shift for certain. Good team player, assist for Johnson was very good.

Still unsure longer term - he is good when there is space to run into, but I’m not yet convinced he will score enough (could just be a lack of sharpness so happy to be convinced).

Also don’t think he offers much aside from a solid short passer when against a low block - something we are really struggling with at the mo
For me Werner is all about expectations. Chelsea sighed a good wide forward but paid for an elite centre forward. For us, as a squad option he offers something very different to our other wide players and has clear strengths so for €15m he looks very good value. You are assessing him like he’s a €50m player, you aren’t going to get a good guy happy to be a rotation option for that money who has everything you want in a wide player

In many ways I think he’s a great signing.

He has pedigree, a point to prove, is available and at a great price. Plus he’s a great fit for how Ange wants us to play.

3 assists already and you can see how much it means to him.

If he keeps playing like he has, it’s a no-brainer to sign him at the end of the season.

Ange talks about needing a great squad, you won’t find many higher-calibre squad players at that price - whether that’s in the starting XI or coming off the bench.

It was noticeable, especially in the second half, that the players are getting used to his movement and spotting his runs more often.

Not a bad start to his Spurs career and although it's a little early to say certainly, 15m certainly seems like a no-brainer so far.

Seems like another nice bloke too. Can't wait for his first goal, I reckon that's going to get a great reaction from the crowd as they sounded like they were really supporting him yesterday.

Hasn't shown it for Spurs yet but we live in hope.

This is spot on. He’s a good loan but I’m not sure he would a good buy while our options are Deki, Werner, Solomon, Johnson, Richie (+ Gil + Sess) - none of them are exceptional against low blocks which is our main struggle, Deki can show glimpses but is yet to show us consistent g/a.

He’d be a good option if we can shift a few though but we really need more variety on our front line.

Everything is good barring his striking of the ball which is really poor for a player with his record.

Had a good assists contribution so far but long term he'll annoy everyone with his wasteful finishing.

What I really like about Werner as a LWF is that you can totally see fullbacks not daring to commit for all it takes is a mistimed commitment and Werner has pace to burn behind you. Or that Werner has enough experience to know when to go on the outside or inside. (As opposed to Gil for eg where defenders just try to clatter him or crowd him out)

Hence if the defenders keep trying to contain him while being 2-3 metres away, it gives Timo options such as his 2 assists… hold the ball and then releasing the underlapping Udogie or beat the fullback for pace for a low cross into the box

hopefully we will also see option 3 soon, where someone helps him screen a defender and he cuts inside and places the ball into top right hand corner of the goal - something which Sonny is so so good at doing, and which once they train together often enough, should rub off on Timo

He does need more options. He seems to like/want the 1-2s but there doesn't seem to be anyone near him for that option. Think it has to be udogie to have that interchange
