Subbing off Tom Carroll engraged Toby, and it was that decision alone which made Toby lose his concentration for a split second, resulting in the goal.

Interestingly, it's when we take off weakling Carroll, that we've gained our most recent losses.

Selfish little shit should just refuse to come off. Sell him now!!

I think three of the last four games (Watford, Leicester x 2) have been his poorest games for us, though that's admittedly after performing at such a high standard so far. Not just in terms of errors but he's starting to lose composure on the ball and making daft decisions. Maybe it's tiredness, but the Everton game is sandwiched in there where he played pretty well, so could just be coincidence and he's had a few errors punished.

His slight dip has coincided with the team as a whole having a little bit of a wobble, so would be good to see him right back at the top of his game starting from the weekend (y)

Personally think he deserves as much plaudits as anyone else in this squad. Him and Dier have transformed our defense.

With Jan looking to be injured, i have feeling Poch will play Dier - Toby with Moose- Nabil/Alli as the CM partnership.

Fantastic defender, can see now why the south coast big club were so pissed when we signed him.

Not only is he a fantastic defender, but he also brings out the best in Vertonghen, so a double bonus.

Wimmer will play, I doubt he's going to move Dier out of midfield where he is incredibly important in that role.

Nah. Maybe if Toby was injured Dier would drop back. But I think Wimmer will slot in and keep up this same dynamic we have going on with Dier dropping back to form a three.

http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...e-midfielders-says-alan-pardew-a3163606.html?

The north Londoners extended their record at Selhurst Park this afternoon - at the expense of Palace - but Pardew was full of praise for the defensive duo.

"They have two central defenders who are like midfield players," he explained.

"They rotate the ball - it's frustrating at times - you have to accept that they will have the lion's share of possession."

"They have a lot of attributes with their two centre halves being so natural on the ball. I watched them both at Ajax - many, many years ago. It feels like 20 years ago but it was probably only about six.

"They rotate the ball well and in possession they're as good as any team we've played. Out of possession maybe that's where they just need to tighten up a little bit."

I think I remember reading these forums and seeing Alderweireld being linked to us before he went to Atletico Madrid. It make me wonder what would have happened if he and Jan were at Spurs from 2013 onwards?

Did we miss out majorly or did the journey to get here make him? Would Vertonghen's form have been at the level it is now a few seasons ago (I think he had a great first season and a bit but stagnated a little until teaming up with Alderweireld).

Anyway... I know the season's not over but for the price paid for him he's been a bargain buy.

What's Wimmer like on the ball? From the small amount of playing time he's got so far it's hard to tell..

He can ping it that's all I know, he has a radar on him or as Jenas would say he can hit a diag, could add another dimension to our attack.

He's quite good. He's got a passing range similar to Toby's and I have never had any concerns about him playing smart passes that can help us maintain long spells of possession.

What's great is that all our CBs are very comfortable on the ball, as Pardew says, it's like playing with 2 extra deep lying playmakers.

Very unfussy. He's a very grounded player and when you watch him pass you'll see the ball almost grips the ground like it's somehow magnetised to the turf. His passing is reflective of his stature - solid.

You won't see him surging forward a la verts (hasn't suggested that's his thing yet, anyway), he plays very solid, simple defensive football, very clinical by the looks of it and doesn't take unnecessary risks; so he could be a very good partner for Toby who is of that same school.

I really like what I've seen of him and think, especially with the crowd behind him, he'll slot in a treat and be a rock.

He could be more fierce aerially, but I'm sure that will come.

Pace is the only area I've not really been able to gauge him on yet and I don't think he's particularly blessed with it (though neither is Tobes tbh and he's pretty amazing), but he's playing next to the best player to learn how to compensate for that by thinking a few steps ahead, reading the game and positioning himself well.

Toby should win our best player this season if there is any fairness in the system!

In honesty it would be hard for me to pick a player of the season as we have quite a few contenders, Toby among them.

I wouldnt go as far as you and say he was outright favorite,

He did surge forward a few times in the Cup game vs. Leicester.
