Would never happen according to some. Apparently we hold all the aces. Feck know's how...out of contract next summer and appears to be heading for the exit.

He's not out of contract next summer. Next summer we have an option of an extention but there is a release clause of £25m.

He’s only out of contract when someone meets the £25m. Which they obviously will buy it’s not s Sanchez situation for £0
It's still bad though. It'd effectively mean us paying £20m at least to loan an unhappy and unwilling Alderweireld for a year. That is not the best use of our limited resources. If he won't sign a reasonable deal, cut him loose.

Why is everyone defending levy. We are on the verge of selling a World class player. How many big players are we going to continue to sell
I honestly don't see how we could resolve this if the contract stories are true. 180k+ would be unmanagablee for the club.
Jan would need to be on the same as Toby as he's been the better player for the last two seasons. Then you have Sanchez who has played exceptionally, he'll need to be on 120+.

Then you have all the attacking players who are the big attractions. What are they going to be on?

It's a slippery slope and you could very quickly end up with a doubled wage bill.

You're missing some very key details in your summary which probably explains the situation better.

Walker was the first we’d sold to a domestic rival in 9 years.

If Toby wants out then the club has to consider the best options for the club.

No idea how you are twisting this into being Levy’s fault.

Maybe try blaming toby for not wanting to stay?

Or just accept that this is what happens in football and don't act as if your girlfriend has just dumped you for another guy.

Media on point about Toby. He wants to stay, but on his terms. That won’t happen! If he stays, it is on our terms! We are willing to let him go for figures being mentioned. Let’s see where this one ends up. I personally believe he is another KW situation. Don’t worry if so, as very good irons in the fire-no joke. Please
Fine with this but not if he goes to prem rival. We need to stop selling to perm rivals, walker was a prime example.

Because every club in the world has to sell players who want to leave and won't renew their contracts. Even the likes of Manchester United. Despite the pretensions both of some of our fans and it seems of the board and management on occasion, we're not Manchester United or Real Madrid, we're Tottenham Hotspur. That means we can't convince world-class players to stay either by paying way more than the competition or promising them major honours - on the contrary, we can only afford to pay far less than the clubs we're competing with and we don't win major honours. Obviously we're all hoping that will change, and I'm optimistic it will - we're on the right track. But we can't expect players to wait around in their prime years to join us in that when everything we're dreaming of is already on the table for them elsewhere.

The choice here is simple. We sell Alderweireld now for likely at least £50m. We keep him another season, potentially while he's unhappy and not playing to his best, and sell him for £25m potentially to a direct rival. Or we keep him for two more seasons, again with relatively poor performances a real possibility, and watch him go for nothing. There are no other choices available to us. And it's the strategy associated with the first choice which has taken us this far - with that money we can strengthen other areas of the squad and hope to keep overachieving by holding down a top four place while the beginning of the new stadium revenue hopefully allows us to be more ambitious.

If he wants to leave, let him go. If his heart isn’t in the game he won’t be the same player he was anyway.

Perhaps the best thing for the club would be to arrange a bumper transfer to a club we won’t play more than a few times in a season, like PSG, Madrid, Juve or Bayern. Worst case we get them and him in the group stage of the champions league and then in the knockout stages.

I didn’t agree with Walker going to a domestic rival but from what Hercules has said the interest is abroad anyway. Spend the cash to bring in young guys to improve the team. Team spirit should be priority above everything else.

if you were to take his current weekly pay and then pay him his annual wage over the last two seasons and divide this into the amount of games he has played I would not be surprised if he has been earning more than the amount he is crying out for .this man has played not that many times over the last two years

An extension is just that, his current contract end's next summer.

I'l grant you, if nothing concluded between now and next summer, then of course we'll be activating the clause in the hope of securing £25 million for him as opposed to seeing him go for free.

Poch has been quoted recently as intending to devote more time to tutoring Foyth. Maybe that and Toby's situation are not unrelated???

Because anyone with an IQ over 50 can see that there might not be much he can do, if Toby wants out or is demanding ridiculous figures to sign.
Maybe thats why.

Pardon the stupid question, but is Toby still injured or being kept out of the side because of the contract situation?
