I thought the reason for Toby going was primarily to win trophies? Going to Utd doesn’t really guarantee him of one, they have hardly been world class of late. It’s true he would get a massive wage and I guess his presence would improve them massively. But really, if he wants to leave to win things, going to Barca makes much more sense. On top of he fact we really can’t be selling him to Utd.

I agree. This season is the first while Toby has been here that Man Utd have finished above us, and while they have won some minor cup trophies it would make more sense to go abroad or maybe to City (the fuckers) if he really wants to play in England.

Looks like Barca are about to sign that Lenglet from Sevilla - do they need Alderweireld?

Guess it depends on if Umtiti to United has any legs. Also Vermaelen is 32 years old and while adequate back-up surely they can afford / eventually need to upgrade and Yerry Mina has only featured 4 times this season.

Hmmm, in that case guess they could very well go into the season with Pique, Lenglet, Mina and Alderweireld as there 4 centre back options...

Reports out of Spain today that Barcelona will pay Clement Lenglets release clause, meaning they would be out of the Alderweireld sweepstakes. This really is looking like he'll either got to ManU, PSG (this is me hoping really), or stay. Disappointed as I thought that Lenglet would have been a fantastic addition to the future Vertonghen place while allowing him some rest.

If Barca are at all interested in Toby they'll try for him first since they can have a free run at a deal for 2 weeks before the European window opens.

United won 2 trophies last season and are in the FA cup final this season. However I'm not convinced he'd join UTD to win trophies. It will be all down to money.

I would hate him to go to UTD.. Carrick, Berbatov, they both left for there and were my fave players at the time, but you could slightly (just!!) understand as UTD we’re still THE team.

If Toby goes there tho, I have no ideas why he would.

And it makes perfect "football sense" to sell to our rivals? Make them stronger?

Indeed. If he rejects offers from overseas and we have the balls to tell him in that case you stay, then I don’t think it will take long before the rejected offers get looked at again.

No but IF this were to happen, maybe it's because Poch thinks we are not making United stronger, or because the risk of doing so is outweighed by what it allows us to do in the Transfer Market.

Maybe it allows for Martial to come to us and Poch feels that Martial plus De Ligt is better for the team overall than a less than fully fit Toby (we don't know if he has recovered from injury or whether he is mentally not in it anymore).

I’d hate him to go to Man Utd but I bet he does.
I think Levy will fight tooth and nail to stop him going to Utd. The EPL is so tight now that there is no margin for error at all. Getting into the CL is the holy grail as far as financial stability for the club is concerned, and that's Levy's top priority. Sure, it would be nice to win some trophies but that would be the icing on the cake. Qualification to CL through the Premier League is the toughest competition going with all of the contenders scrapping it out over the whole season. The only way Toby goes to Man Utd (and Rose for that matter) in my opinion is if we get something out of the deal that strengthens us overall, but I can't see Mourinho sanctioning that.

Lol people talking about United like they are chopped liver. Still one of the biggest clubs in Europe when it comes to size, fan base and wealth. I really hope Toby doesn’t end up there.

Given that Danny looks like he's staying, I think Toby will be our bargaining chip if we want Martial. :( Still hoping we'll work something out with him though.
What makes you say Rose is staying. Poch isn't playing him even when he's fit like he has with Toby so I think he's made up his mind he's going.
