How so? Have you seen De Ligt? He’s 18. Toby is 29. In 3 years time we would have a settled 21 year old as opposed to a knackered 32 year old. Nothing is for certain, yes. But I don’t see how that’s grasping - that looks pretty obvious to me. De Ligt is a wonder kid.
How so? He's just potential at the minute. You cant put your hopes on potential. If we keep losing top players and replacing with inferior quality hoping they come good we'll only go in one direction, backwards.
I'm hoping we'll see some real proven quality come in this window.

He’s not just potential, he’s a damn good player - irrespective of his age.

Would De Ligt go straight into any other top 4 teams starting 11 back 4?
Imo no he wouldn't would he so he's potential.
Edit CL teams do not stick 19yr old kids in their back 4

He says not “just” potential - so he yes his potential is huge but he has also amounted a huge amount of game time, experience (in big games as well), national caps... this is very different to say a KWP or Edwards etc in our squad for example and is already a very good player regardless of age.

Also at a time when really the top 4 is not made up of top quality defenders I’m not sure ur claim about him not starting is so strong - but that’s opinion I guess.

I can’t dispute he is not as good as Toby - not many are, but we don’t seem to have a lot of choice with this situation.

One of the players Pochettino is interested in signing this summer is forward Anthony Martial, who is also on Chelsea’s radar.

Tottenham’s hopes of beating Chelsea to Martial’s signature could be boosted by Manchester United’s interest in central defender Toby Alderweireld.

While there is little prospect of a straight swap involving the two players, both clubs could be more inclined to do business if they can get what they want.

Spurs want around £45m for Alderweireld, which is similar to the value that has been placed on Martial who has been left out France’s World Cup squad.

I reckon your post would look amazing in the 'Martial' thread. :sneaky:

Manchester United are attempting to negotiate a £55million deal for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.
United sources have told the MEN the club is prepared to make Alderweireld their most expensive defensive signing to reinforce a backline Jose Mourinho is unconvinced by. The United manager is also aiming to recruit a left-back and a right-back, with Juventus’ Alex Sandro prioritised to replace Luke Shaw.

Tottenham are resigned to losing the 29-year-old Alderweireld after he decided against signing a new contract and intend to sell him this summer rather than in a year’s time, when his current deal activates a £25m release clause.

Would rather take £35-40m and sell him to Barca/Madrid

Fully agree, however I could just about stomach it if they agreed to sell us Martial and we brought in De Ligt. Barely though as I despise selling to PL clubs, and you just know it would be brought up every time we concede or Utd keep a clean sheet...

I would hate to see Toby moving to PL club. But if get De Ligt and Martial I would be ok to consider it. Toby isn't going to improve hugely a already ultra defensive Mourinho way of playing. But Martial to us considerably improves us and probably closes the chapter on buying strikers for few years atleast. Sanchez & Jan has showed that they can go through a season without much issues. Sanchez will only improve after his first season.

So Toby to United, Martial to Spurs, De Ligt to Spurs - I say Yes.

Why?can you name a better player than martial we can sign?

What makes you and others so sure man u would sell us a player who could develop into serious quality?

We sold man city walker and they still would rather flog a youth team player to Germany than let us get hold of him

You seriously think Levy is stupid enough to first sell them Toby then expect them to sell us Martial later on?

No I seriously think Manchester united won't deal with us at all regarding martial. It's a fools hope thinking mourhino will sanction that

We need to sell Toby, they don't need to sell martial
