The way it works for some clubs, they don't care about the present price tags in relation to how long they'll benefit from the player or what they can get him for next summer. They pay based on how important the player is/might be for the upcoming season. Alderweireld will easily fetch incredible sums of money.
I see the usual rating-happy people have had their coffee overdose today. Not all clubs operate like Spurs. Not all clubs will care what might be the possible service of Alderweireld in 2020. He'll fetch big sums or not go.

I think the negative ratings are not about your sentiment, which is hopeful and which I certainly would wish for, but about the reality of the market and the lack of a strong auction for Toby at the moment. PSG are about to be sanctioned and given the deliberate nature of the offense I wouldn't be shocked if it were a transfer ban. I certainly don't see how Toby gets into the starting lineup at Real Madrid over S Ramos and R Varane. That leaves Barca.

Umtiti at Barca has a 53M release clause and is looking for a mega deal. His agents seem to have been pushing the idea of United interest in triggering that release clause. My guess -- and this is just a guess -- is that Barca's interest in Alderweireld was to replace Umtiti rather than give him a giant contract (or it was interest in the event of United triggering the clause). Then a rumor circulated about a week ago strongly linking Barca with a done deal for Clement Lenglet of Sevilla.

I don't know if United's interest in Umtiti is legitimate, or if the Lenglet to Barca rumor is legitimate, but IF both are, then we're in a potentially bad position. United would be potentially the only remaining strong bidder for Toby, and would hold both the 53M release clause for Umtiti and Toby's 25M release clause next summer over DL's head to prevent Toby's price from getting too high. Fingers crossed that DL can get Van Dijk money but the market / auction dynamics and the lack of bidders and leverage seem to really suck at the moment.

That’s starting to sound like the articles that came about before we sold Walker to Man City. Bollocks, we’re selling him to Man Utd aren’t we? That’s so fucking stupid it’s unreal.
At first I thought levy won't dare to make the same mistake but I'm starting to have my doubts. If he sells toby then we'll just have to admit we're a selling club which will sell any of it's players for the right price.

Darren Lewis is pretty good for Spurs news if I remember correctly.... So this sucks.

Eh, that’s overstated imo. He’s about average for Spurs news, but for some reason he randomly got a reputation for being set apart from the rest.

If we sell United Alderweireld without ensuring that we get Martial included in the deal, it’s a slap in the face for Spurs fans - and the board would be idiots (which they’re not) if they don’t realise that.

I can’t be the only one who would rather sell him to Barca (if they are truly interested) for even 1/3 of the price if the alternative is United. Don’t see an extra 20M or so being worth significantly strengthening one of our nearest direct rivals.

Martial has to be included in the deal surely. It's all lovely that Utd would pay 20m more than PSG or Barca but strengthening a rival when no need is just dumb. I could just about swallow Toby going to Utd if we got a player with huge potential in return. Selling him to them just to reduce the net spend overall is painful.

ButchCassidy and Spurrific, in the same thread? What is this, a crossover episode?

I agree fully. Especially after watching Walker win the league and Sancho eventually lighting up the Bundesliga. We got cucked so hard in that deal.

I seem to remember him being good last summer and he nailed the Dembele leaving info a month ago.

What I don't get is that @Hercules was convinced Toby was going to Spain/psg so doesn't make sense for us to deal with united unless we're not getting a player in return

Cue Liverpool fans assembling on the internet to justify why Alderweireld is worth 50p and van Dijk was a bargain

We’re actually going to fucking do it again aren’t we? What’s the point in building a new stadium etc, to act like a glorified Southampton?

Fuming will not be the word. I will re-erect Archway Steel on the fucking centre circle if we cuck ourselves this hard, to those ****s.

Levy will not be ready for my pure venom. I will no longer attend matches using my friends’ season tickets if he goes through with this.

Am I the only 1 who's not fussed about him going? Look I realise he's a class CB not disputing that. This season before the injury he wasn't at his best got injured then when he got injured. Regardless of how good he is we simply didn't miss him. Sanchez slotted in superbly and Jan had his best season in a Spurs shirt! Obviously losing a player that good is upsetting but we haven't missed him at all this season sp if he wants to go so be it in my opinion.

Having said thisnif he goes United and we don't get Martial I'll be livid.

What should we do?
