Apparently, if he doesn't sign a new contract he won't be playing, so lets hope our new 50m CB slots straight in ! good business that, don't play our best CB on principle and it costs us approx 50m !!!
Yeah, I don't think we're spending 50 mil on a cb as long as Toby is here...

but if we don't play Toby on principle then it's going to cost us 40-50m to replace him
Principles can be costly and inconvenient but if you drop them everytime they become an inconvenience then what have you got really?

Every organization needs structure and it takes sacrifices of the individual to keep that structure. If those sacrifices are losing the performances of Walker and possibly Toby for running afoul of the structural expectations in exchange for the 3 years running of CL footie, new stadium, and a team for which we can be proud to support then so be it. No player more important than the manager and no person more important than the club.

William to Manure paves the way for a Toby-Martial swap. We then give youth (Foyth, CCV) a chance, leaving everyone happy. 3 at the back leaves Kane isolated, and we saw how that worked for England in the WC.

But for England he has no creativity behind Kane and lack of intelligent wide men up with him!

Incidentally comparing Ceballos and Toby is totally idiotic, due to their value difference !

Value is irrelevant. Does my tits in when people say things like "you can't compare X to y".

Yes, I can. We, as a club, have a history of taking a hard-line approach to contact rebels, and the ITK suggests that TA would receive no different treatment - regardless of his "value".

If Toby really was after the reported £160k-£180k per week then he's been really badly advised. A couple of seasons ago he was on loan at Southampton and has had one barnstorming, injury free season for us since joining. The £120k per week would have put him on roughly the same at World Cup winning defender Mats Hummels but he got greedy and believed his own hype instead of being a little bit thankful that we took a punt on him after failures at Atletico Madrid.

If we hadn't come in for him he'd be somewhere like the Saints, probably trying to force a move to somewhere like us for probably around £20,000 less per week that we were willing to pay him time time around.

He got greedy, chanced his arm and maybe now he realises that is the case and that the grass isn't always greener playing for a bastard like Mourinho or in a one sided Ligue 1 team. He's supposed to be one of the senior players at Spurs and if he has let Pochettino down for his own selfish purposes he not only did the gaffer wrong but set a bad example to all of his younger teammates as to what it means to be part of a real team. We gave him top whack for a defender so it's not exactly as if he was getting guilt tripped into agreeing to something less, he just got wide eyes for something that was pie in the sky for a defenders going rate.

If he doesn't understand the magnitude of what that means to a boss trying to desperately change mindsets of footballers from Gold Lamborghinis and flashy red Carpets to being the best footballer you can be because of genuine glory and a genuine love and thankfulness to the game then he's more of a bad egg than a good one and will need to be sold. Nothing should make a good mans job harder to do than it needs to be and for him to do what people are speculating he's done in really undermining Poch, he probably either really needs to apologise and get his head down in training or he needs to go (just like Rose does for stabbing the manager who made him an England International in the back on the eve of a new, important season!)

What loophole? He signed the contract for the basic that he's on and with a releasing clause that I'm guessing he and his agent insisted on having. I really can't see where there could be a loophole if this is the case and o team has met our valuation of him yet.

If he's claiming that we are preventing him from earning more by not selling him, couldn't any player put such a case together when a bid is rejected? He signed the contract, he has to suck it up as much as we have to

Ps don't players in Spain extend their contracts but have their buyout clauses increased when doing so? It doesn't seem to cause any legal issues for the player there or in other parts of the world like Barrios has had with his recent contract extension at Boca. This story is a load of old bollocks

Bored of him now

Why? "He" hasn't done anything in what you quoted. It's clickbait that ends with:

"It feels quite unlikely that a legal battle is going to materialise here, and it’s probably even more unlikely Tottenham would be intimidated by the threat of such a situation."

It's a nonsense article.

It’s not him but a lawyer claiming there’s loopholes in activating the extra year.

I'm bored with him and this whole saga - if he really wants to leave then put in a transfer request.

All this umming and arring that he's doing is no good for anyone

There are loads of players that have an option for a further year inserted into their contracts. Martial currently doesn't want to stay at Man U yet they want to trigger his clause so if Toby finds a loophole surely Martial does as well

I saw Kristof Terreur 'accidentally' stumble upon an old article (Dec-16) in respect of this today. Wonder if that's what it is referring to. Pretty fragile basis of an article if so. KT does have an in with the Belgian PL players though. Probably just trying to spice it up as it's gone quiet and Toby to Utd is a big story in Belgium.

Seems the argument is that the clause had no benefit to Toby, only the club, as the option is for the same pay and only we can activate it. That said the £25m fee is now clearly below market value which has to be of benefit to the player rather than the club.

If true I guess the aim would to cancel the clause to push through at a lower figure this summer as he'd have one year left, but that would never happen.

He doesn't want to leave, going on what we're hearing from ITK.

Wonder when these crunch talks will happen, hopefully before the WC players are due back after the US tour. Feel like this situation is holding a lot of things up. Seems Martial is top target and we can't fully write that off until Toby's future is settled. Problem is that dragging it to the last week makes getting a top CB replacement difficult. It also means trying to get someone like Zaha if Martial fails will be extremely difficult as Palace would have no time to spend the money on replacements.

Although if we get a top CM like Kovacic I can take or leave a new attacker anyway. Still have hopes for Lucas and a fit Lamela to contribute.

Levy needs to get Poch and Toby to thrash it out over facetime.

I honestly believe if Toby does go, the games we decide to go with a back 3, Poch will drop Dier in as a defender and use Wanyama in midfield, something I expect to see the 1st month with Son gone, if we don't use Moura or buy another WF.

Lloris
Sanchez - Dier - Jan
Trippier - Wanyama - Winks/Dembele/New CM - Davies/Rose
Eriksen - Dele
Kane

Vorm, Aurier/KWP, CCV, Lamela, Grealish? Sissoko:cry: 1 of Rose or Davies

or
Lloris
Trippier - Sanchez - Jan - Davies/Rose
Winks/Dembele/New CM - Dier
Eriksen - Dele - Moura
Kane

Vorm, Aurier/KWP, CCV, Lamela, Grealish? Wanyama, 1 of Rose or Davies

above until Son is back and ready

And who would stand to lose the most ? not Toby.

considering he wanted an extra increase from £75k New £110k to wanting £170, then Toby, because he would be getting just (just sounds so embarrassing considering the amount) the £75 no bonuses and possibly no match fitness which might effect playing for Belgium
